Benson's in Action, Fire Support
One of the most important tasks for any amphibious landing is Naval fire support. The fate of an invasion could well lie within the ability of Naval bombardment to take out bunkers, tanks, obstacles, etc ;and to enable landing troops to land on the beach. The below operations show that the destroyers role in shore bombardment was vital and played a significant role in the Invasion of Europe. More links will be added as information is gathered.
