"On Target, On Time, Last Time"

by Krafty

In the spring we left Whidbey on a fourteen plane go
Bound for the gulf and adventures unknown.
On the LINCOLN we sailed, and the journey's now done,
The "Lizard's Last Romp" is our name for this fun.

Hong Kong and Singapore, then into the Strait,
We entered the gulf where the challenges wait,
The wingmen, the names and the targets may change,
But the Intruder in front is still the same.

The carrier exists for one purpose, really,
To project power ashore, against those who are guilty.
We have carried the torch and are doing it right,
From Vietnam to Iraq, deep into the night.

One day we said, "Let's all show them the way,
We'll get all our jets airborne on one strike, on one day."
All were surprised, all taken aback
By 14 Intruders flying into Iraq.

Others assume that our mission's not tough
They've got great systems, they think that's enough.
But the proof is results, so please remember this line:
You're not worth a damn if you're not on target, on time.

The A-6 will leave, no replacement in sight,
Who has the guts to strike deep, and at night?
Some planes may go faster, they may look more sleek,
But all weather attack is not for the meek.

In November all those who've been part of this dream
Will gather together to honor the team.
What we'll do at that time, on our own special day,
Is to honor all Lizards who've flown in harm's way.

When you're out of Intruders, you're done with attack,
But when it gets tough, you know we'll be back.
The future is ours, though our plane may be gone,
Our people will lead and our spirit lives on.

YOU JUST CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT A LIZARD!
