Not much remains of this original National Color of the 27th
Indiana. The remnants of the unit name can be seen on the 3d red
stripe from the bottom. The tattered remains have been mounted on a
backdrop of the national flag. This flag resides in the Indiana War

This is a composite flag I created using the 143d Indiana flag and
others to show what the 27th Indiana's Regimental Colors would look
like in their prime, if issued at the end of the their service. The
flags were believed to be manufactured by the same company. Battle
names and pattern would be correct. This is a 35 star color with an
unusual field, as the rows and columns are reversed. This was typical
of many Indiana flags
Flags of Sister Regiments
The two regiments below fought in nearly every battle together
with the 27th Indiana. Later, the 13th New Jersey and the 107th New
York would add to the brigade a core of regiments that would serve
together for most of the war.
