This site is dedicated to my son David, I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH,
and to all the men and women that HAVE and WILL serve this country.
Over the years November 11 has been known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, Victory Day, and Veterans Day. Veterans Day as we know it now came into existance at the end of WWI also known as The European War and The Great War. On November 11, 1918 at 11 a.m. the unconditional terms of surrender was signed. People world wide gathered together to celebrate the end of the war and to mourn and honor the men that fought. In 1919 President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as Armistice Day, and in 1926 a Congressional resolution was passed giving November 11 the offical name of Armistice Day. 12 years later another Congressional resolution made it a national holidiay. After the Korean War a requested came before Congress to make this day an occasion to honor those who have served in all wars. President Eisenhower signed a bill in 1954 changing the name to Veterans Day. In 1968 a law passed changing the date of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in October. Congress in 1978 returned the observance of Veterans Day to November 11 because of the historic significance to many Americans.
Please contact your elected officials and let them know that you oppose House Bill H.R. 62, proposed by Sheila Jackson-Lee, D-Tex This bill is asking the nation, and our Veterans to sacrifice the traditional November 11 Veterans Day Holiday every presidential election year, and move it to election day, and observe it as a legal public holiday for voting.
22 years later this date has significance to only a very few people. Have we forgotten what our country was built from and what some Americans have given their lives for? I for one will NOT forget, and am thankful and hold in high reguard the ones that HAVE and WILL serve this country.
