An Ode to JMK |
This past week we lost another legend in our business ... Sailor Art Thomas. Please join with me in honoring his memory and by saying a prayer in his honor. You were a great friend to me and all the wrestlers that you came in contact with. May you R.I.P.--Percival |
Over the past four or so years, I have had the pleasure of knowing J. Michael Kenyon. His love of our business is unequalled and, to this point, unquestioned. He has spent countless hours in universities, libraries and newspapers throughout the country gathering information on wrestling's past. He is without a doubt the leading historian of our profession. J. Michael has been a member of the board of directors of the Cauliflower Alley Club for many years. He has been the emcee of our Banquet night get -togethers that we refer to as "The Ring of Friendship." He has given the huge crowds that gather for the yearly conventions in Las Vegas a look at banquet attendees that are not being honored. It gives those persons a chance to be in the spotlight once again, even if for just a moment. His kind words and accolades to acknowledge those members of the audience have been thus far unsurpassed. His devotion in being the webmaster for the Cauliflower Alley Club site has been a remarkable job well done. He has given his own personification to stories and articles, making them in-depth and very easy to read and follow. I know how taxing it can be to put together a weekly synopsis of happenings. I have done just that for nearly five years myself. Sometimes, the job can appear to be a thankless position, while other times it seems like the readers can't get enough of your writings. Sometimes, you're a hero sometimes, you're a heel. Sometimes, your writings bring joy to people in remembering a favorite, and sometimes, they question your ability to tell it like it is and call you a fraud and a phony. I only hope that the person or persons that take over this tremendous task remember the man that passed the torch and kept the flame burning for so long. My tam is off to you, Mr. Kenyon, for a job well done. Please stay in contact with the members of the club and continue to give us the thing that we crave knowledge of our past. May you be blessed with many, many more years of good life and spirits. Percival A. Friend, Retired
