JOB SUMMARY
The post holder is  responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care, and/or the implementation and evaluation   of these programmes.  The postholder is expected to carry out all relevant  forms of care without direct supervision and may be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise, qualified and unqualified staff.
RESPONSIBLE TO:      Grade G/F - with continuing responsibility
ACCOUNTABLE TO:  Directorate Manager/Senior Nurse Manager
RESPONSIBILITIES OF POST
PROFESSIONAL
1. Ensure that registration with the UKCC is maintained.
2. Acknowledge personal accountability and responsibility, as stated in the UKCC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.
3. Base all clinical practice on current information and significant research findings, to facilitate the development of a research culture and innovative practice, within the Mid Cheshire Hospitals Trust.
4. Accept responsibility for ensuring own continued professional development and competence.
5. Participate in the appraisal  of own performance and identify their development needs.
6. Accept responsibility as a named nurse for a group of patients.
7. Be receptive to new developments and participate in changing nurse practice.
8. Promote a positive collaborative approach to patient care delivery.
MANAGERIAL
1.  Be aware of and adhere to the Mid Cheshire Hospitals  policies and procedures.
2. Communicate effectively with all disciplines.
3. Maintain an awareness of the efficient and effective use of resources and the cost of implications of same.
4. Ensure the maintenance and safe storage of equipment.
5. Maintain accurate records.
QUALITY
1. Participate in Clinical Audit to highlight good nursing practice.

GENERAL DUTIES APPLICABLE TO ALL EMPLOYEES
Report any deficiency in health and safety systems or documentation to own line manager or manager of area concerned.
Attend Occupational Health for health surveillance/vaccination following accidents and for monitoring as laid down by Trust policies.
Co-operate with and attend training provided for health and safety purposes.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
SALARY SCALE:      £14,890 per annum rising by annual increments to £16,445 per annum (pro rata)
HOURS:                    37.5 per week or part time
ANNUAL LEAVE:     28 days per annum based on a 5 day week
PENSION:                   Optional contributory NHS Scheme in operation
