The Persian Divan
The Divan or anderoum was used by Persian gentry as a place to welcome guests. The pointed caps shown in the illustration are called coulas and vary only in the quality of the wool used which establishes the status of the wearer.

DIVAN is possibly the most travelled word of oriental cultures both in time and space. From its indo-iranian roots it spread with Arab conquests throughout the Mediterranean basin lands, shifted meanings  from bundle of written sheets to accounts, customshouse, council room, furniture.
Here are a few illustrations of the usage of the concept of DIVAN in the WORLD.
