My name's Alies Meerman and I was born in this tiny little village you've probably never heard of (as it's in the Netherlands). I'm a fifth-year student of English at the University of Groningen (that's also in the Netherlands - gee, I must be Dutch), but I hope to graduate this year. Of course, I love to draw and paint; my other hobbies and life-long interests include writing, reading and collecting foxes, books on wolves and legends & mythology (mostly Norse, Celtic and Arthurian). My all-time favourite book is (of course) the Lord of the Rings - I also like books by authors like Dennis L. McKiernan, David Eddings, Mary Stewart, Anne Rice (especially the Vampire Chronicles), Michael Moorcock, Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman, and I have this thing going for Lloyd Alexander's Prydain series. It's also my ambition to collect every AD&D novel ever published. If you've visited my links page, you know I'm also interested in comic books. My favourite and my first love in the world of comics is Wendy and Richard Pini's ElfQuest. (If you haven't read it, do so now. Right now. The first series is the best.) Wendy, by the way, is also my first great influence - which shows in my work, I suppose. I'm also a member of WindShaper's Holt, a Dutch ElfQuest fanzine, for which I draw pictures and write stories - including three comic stories (up until now). My other favourite comic stories include Strangers in Paradise (everybody I showed it to up until now likes it - even people who aren't into comics), The Maxx (unfortunately the series has ended over a year ago and Sam Keith has been eerily quiet ever since..), Bone (humoristic fantasy), A Distant Soil (a newcomer in my home), Elflord and Poison Elves. I also read GoldDigger, but that's my sister's hang-up. Lessee... what else? I also like Role-playing games (especially AD&D) - it's been my greatest source of inspiration (together with WSH) ever since I got hooked five years ago. Yes, I usually draw fantasy stuff, but I also like to draw wolves and other animals. Outside of my home, I usually draw everything in sight.

The purpose of this site is to let you see some of my work. My own favourites and some others. Of course the quality of these gif's and jpg's is nothing compared to the real things. They're a lot bigger for instance. And some of the finer water-colours don't show on the scans.

One other nice thing about all this is that I can tell you something about my AD&D characters and all. I like to play kender as you will notice, but the pictures I make are not limited to that race.
