Smolny Cathedral
The State Chamber Choir
was created in the Spring 1991 in the Smolny Cathedral. Its members are
the professional musicians, many of whom have graduated from the famous
Saint Petersburg Conservatory.
The repertory of the Choir
is wide and diversified. It is represented mainly by the Russian choral
spiritual and popular music as well as by the classical Russian and European
choral music, and by the pieces written by the contemporaneous composers.
Many of the Choir's concerts
in St. Petesburg and other Russian and West European cities, where it has
interpreted the choral pieces composed by P.I.Chaikovskii, S.V.Rakhmaninov,
A.Grechaninov, D.Bortianskii, P.Chesnokov, A.Arkhangelskii and by the contemporaneous
authors such as G.Sviridov, R.Schedrin, B.Tischenko, V.Gavrilin and V.Rubin,
are recorded on the laser disks, audiotapes and are translated by the radio
and television.
The Choir is actively performing,
its concert
activities being aimed at the popularization of the best choral masterpieces.
It is giving concerts in the Smolny Cathedral and other concert halls of
St. Petersburg. The Choir has participated many times in various musical
festivals.
Currenlty the Choir is
directed by E.Krotman,
who is also directing the St.
Petersburg State University Students' Choir.
