Overview:
This is an English-only class.

The objective of this unit is to enable students to write a five-paragraph persuasive essay.  Therefore, it is necessary that students have or be able to develop the skills needed to express ideas and opinions in English.

Students are expected to have a working knowledge of English to;
(i) Comprehend most instructions in English
(ii) Complete assignments typed and in English
(iii) Use English co-operatively with other students
(iv) Ask and answer questions in English

If a students¨ English comprehension is insufficient he/she may be asked to improve his/her comprehension level before attempting class.

Quizzes, Assignments, Exams:
There will be a minimum of 6 Quizzes, 4 Writing Assignments, a mid-term and a final semester exam.

Grading:
Attendance will be taken every class.  Late attendance will also be noted ( 3 late attendances = 1 absence ).  Sungkyunkwan University policy states that 6 absences will result in an F grade.  There are no exceptions.  If you are absent from a class, you are still responsible for assignments and exercises completed in that class.

If you will be absent you must contact me BEFORE class.  Otherwise, you must hand a documented reason to me.

Final Grade will be determined as follows;

Attendance  10%
Quizzes   10%
Homework  10%
Assignments   20%
Mid-term exam  20%
Final exam  30%

Final Grades will be determined on a curve as follows;
A ? B grades: 65%
C+ (and below): 35%

Writing Assignments
ALL assignments must be typed and double-spaced.  No handwritten work will be accepted.  The assignments will not be long, so typing will not take a long time, even if your English typing ability is average.  Assignments must be handed in on the due date IN CLASS.  If you cannot attend that class, you must email the assignment on the due date.
