Water droplets within thunder clouds produce positive and negative charges as they are rubbed together, and the charges are attracted to one another and as the charges are pulled together streaks of hot light called lightning shoot through the air. As hot lightning shoots through the cold damp air, the air spreads out rapidly and the rumbling, and crackling, sounds of thunder are heard. The rubbing together of drops of water within thunder clouds produces friction which produces the electrical charges (heat) that causes giant sparks of energy (hot light) to shoot through the air. The joining, combining, (fusing) of hydrogen and oxygen produces friction which produces the heat, fire, sparks, energy, (thrust) that forces space rockets up and out of the gravitational pull of the earth. Water is the by product. Electricity is hot and dangerous! In a damp bathroom, electricity can give you a nasty shock.
