The earth is orbiting the sun. How do I know the earth is orbiting the sun? If the earth was only rotating in the presence of the sun, then the earth would only experience sunrise, midday, sunset, midnight, and sunrise etc. (days and nights at the same times and of the same temperatures, however, the earth experiences, extremes of heat and cold. (four seasons). The earth, though it is a round, has four sides. If the earth was only rotating in the presence of the sun, then, only two sides of the earth would be experiencing day to night to day etc, and the other sides of the earth would remain in darkness. In order to have seasons upon the earth it is necessary for the earth to travel about the sun as it rotates in its presence. The rotating earth is orbiting the sun, as it travels along with the sun, in its circuit around the Milky Way Galaxy. Stars are joined together. (have gravity).
