It has been a dream of mine to travel to a show, any show (Not just Pete's). One day I hope to fly to Minneapolis to see a Semisonic concert since that's their hometown. I'm always very envious of the people on the board who travel to this state and that state for like 5 concerts in a row. So I finally did it! Mike and I left my house that Saturday around 3:30 pm. It was Thanksgiving weekend so there was some slow traffic. I had made plans that morning with Jules to meet in front of the club by 6 pm. This would be my second time meeting Jules. I met her while at a Semisonic show in April (Pete was the opening act). When we arrived there I was greeted by someone calling my name. "Kim!" It was Tilly and Carole from the PY board. Carole had extra tickets and sold them to me so I could go. It was around 6 then and Mike and I were getting hungry. Doors wouldn't open till 8 so we had time. Jules and her friend Moon finally arrived around 6:30 or so. We went to eat at the restaurant around the corner. We sat and talked about our trips to Philly while Jules quietly rooted for her alma mater in the football game playing. After dinner, we went back to the club. I was amazed to see such a long line outside already. While in line we talked about Pete, Semisonic, 311, JJ72, and other things made to embarass me. Jen from the board found us and said hi...Okay, this is getting long so let's get to the concert! First up was JJ72. I didn't really know what to expect since I had never heard of them. They did about 6 songs. The lead singer has a really nice voice and I really loved the song that was acoustic. He even threw his guitar at the end of one of the songs. Wow, what a show! Next, after waiting what felt like an eternity, Remy Zero came on. The lead singer seemed a little depressed. He was drinking a bottle of champagne. The crowd was really inconsiderate to them though. I really wasn't into their music since I was in pain. I was tired and my back was in emense pain. Finally, Pete came on and this made most of my pain go away. I thought he did a great job that night. Full of energy and he seemed really happy to be there. The audience shaped up and really had a good time. One complaint, the guy that was in front of me kept shaking his hair and switching his body position. I couldn't see Pete!! I was right in front of him about 5 rows back. So I had to be aggressive and find a middle ground to see him. Finally I wiggled myself over and got a good view, but had to deal with the girl next to me pushing me out of the way. What a power packed show!! I was really impressed at how much their show has improved since last I saw them. They just get better every time!! One more thing I will add, did anyone else catch Pete's mess up during "Girl Like You"?? Not that I'm nit-picking! I just thought it was funny. I gave him this "you know that's wrong" look. Hehe, silly Pete!!! So that was it... after they ended, we had to leave. We were very tired and had to make our way back to Maryland that night. Even though it was a lot of fun, I don't think we will do that again for a while. I'm sorry we couldn't stay around to say Hi. Thanks Pete and DB's for a really great show!!! The best one yet! |
