BUTTERFLY
Butterfly flickering in my sight
Wings so delicate and light
Unpredictable, elusive flight
Such a summery delight

I never could understand why
they chose to name you "butterfly"
The term I use is better applied
I'll always call you "Flutterby"

You dance in the air and dart about
Carefree, as though you are without
any destination or route
Leaving your admirers in doubt

It's fun to watch you move in grace
playfully from place to place
With pulsing wings, like living lace
while pausing over a flower's face

Oh please don't leave - I know you're shy
but I'm not ready to say goodbye
Oh how I wish that I could fly
and flutter with you up into the sky
