Why Cry ?
It starts on the inside, a secret you know
Travels from the mind to your heart down below
It wells up inside 'til you overflow
Then out sneaks a tear - it's a secret no more

You might try to blink it or brush it away
Laugh it off, turn your head, or try to downplay
But the catch in your throat is bound to betray
the feelings that now, on your skin, are displayed

There's no use denying or trying to lie
Or dismiss it as something that got in your eye
Don't fight the feeling - just let it fly
It's important for others to know you can cry

What is it inside that makes us cry
What forms a tear in the corner of your eye
You often can't stop it, although you may try
So go with the flow and don't question why

It may only hurt more if you hold it inside
I've often felt much better after I've cried
It's cleansing, and after the tears have all dried
a strange kind of peace comes along to abide

There's just so much pain a body can stand
before it spills out, so just follow the plan
Let the tears stream down your face as they can
It won't mean you're neurotic or less of a man

We cry tears of joy, or of patriotic pride
Or weep in deep sorrow when someone has died
Or sob with a heartbreak it seems may never subside
Whatever the reason, our humanity can't be denied

It's visual evidence of something so deep
It can't be contained - it's not yours to keep
And next time you're crying yourself to sleep
remember that even Jesus did weep
