SRU: A Special Reward

Diana's Story Index    Petra Jane's Story Index

This story was written for a friend by an idea that she supplied. The story is for her, but I hope you all enjoy it.

"No, Andy," Sharon said to her husband, "I told you before that I can't accept it, and if you keep bringing it up, then our trip is off. I don't care if you do it, but I want no part of it. Now, can we drop it and just have a nice night seeing 'The Lion King'?"

"I guess so," a depressed Andy answered, looking at how beautiful his wife looked, but she always did. He loved her so much and wanted Sharon to share in all of his life, but there was one part of his life she wanted no part of. He watched as she touched up her makeup before they left for the theater. As she finished up, he went downstairs and out to get the car started.

On the way to the theater they stopped and picked up their friends, Dan and Diana Thomas. They were the oldest friends Sharon and Andy had, and always enjoyed each other's company because they had so much in common. Diana accepted her husband's hobby, and had even talked to Sharon about joining in the next time they went out, but even she couldn't talk Sharon into going along. They all made small talk on the way to the theater, and all Andy could really hear was Sharon say, "I found this darling blue silk dress the other day, and wait until you see the swimsuit I bought for our trip. I'll have the boys popping their eyes out. And what about you..." He didn't hear the rest of the conversation, as his mind was focused on finding a parking spot as they had arrived at the theater.

So far the play had been as good as all the word-of-mouth and even the critics' reviews. During the intermission, they headed out to the lobby and when the girls went off to freshen up, Andy and Dan just stood there and talked while waiting for their beautiful wives to return.

"What's up, buddy," Dan asked his friend, "you not enjoying the play?"

"It's not that, Dan," Andy replied. "It's just more of the same. I talked to Sharon again about-"

"Let me guess, she still hasn't come around?" Dan interrupted his friend. "Diana has tried talking to her, I've tried talking to her. You know that Sharon doesn't want any part of this because she feels she's losing you to our hobby, don't you?"

"Yeah, I know, she keeps telling me that over and over again. I keep telling her she won't, that I just want to share it with her, but she doesn't understand and I don't want to push it on her," Andy said. "But it would be so much better for me, for us, if she did."

"I know, I know," Dan said sympathetically to his pal of many years. "I think I may have found something, someone rather, who can help you. There's a small store that just opened in the mall. It's right next to Victoria's Secret. I want you to go there tomorrow; don't worry, you'll be expected," he finished saying, as the wives came back just before the intermission ended. They all went back in to enjoy the end of the play.

The following day, Andy went over to the mall right after work. Dan seemed so sure that this place, or the person that ran it, could help him so he figured he'd at least stop by. He found the store just where Dan said it would be, but boy, did it look out of place. Dark and dusty looking, a single wooden door and a sign that read, "Spells R Us" stood before him. As he pushed the door open a bell overhead tinkled, and then he heard a voice from the back say, "I'll be right with you, Andy."

'This was too much,' Andy thought, 'I know Dan said that I'd be expected, but how did he know it was me?' He didn't have long to wait, as almost immediately a wizened little man appeared, wearing what looked to be a faded blue bathrobe.

"The reason I know who you are is simple. I'm a wizard," the little old man said. "What? You think Dan told me who you are, and when you'd be here? How could he? You didn't make up your mind until just before you came. Isn't that right, Andy?" He was looking for something on the shelves as he asked Andy these questions.

"Umm...yeah, that's right. I wasn't sure about coming here. I was debating with myself all the way over," Andy confessed.

"AH! Here it is," the tiny man said as he took a small box from one of the dusty shelves. He turned, and after blowing off some of the dust, handed it to Andy.

"This is going to change your life, and give you what you want most. All you have to do is trust me," the Wizard said.

Andy opened the box and looked inside. Sitting in the box was a pendant. A gold broken heart pendant that separated in two and was really two separate items. Engraved on the heart were the words, "Time and place may change, but nothing will separate us."

"It's very nice, but how is this going to help me?" Andy asked.

"That's where your trust comes in," the Wizard answered. "When you go home tonight, give one half of the pendant to Sharon, and you put on the other. You'll both see things differently after you do that."

Andy just shrugged his shoulders, figuring he'd humor the little man, and said, "Okay, how much?"

"This is a freebie," answered the wizened little man. "Consider it a reward for putting your wife before yourself, and for being one of the last faithful people left in this world. One thing, though; you must never tell anyone that I GAVE it to you. I do have a reputation to maintain, after all."

Andy smiled at the man in the bathrobe and thanked him for his gift. He still didn't understand what was supposed to happen, if anything. But he didn't want to insult the old crank, and so he just gave his promise not to tell, and left the shop.

When he got home, Andy found that Sharon had prepared another of her fabulous meals. Her cooking was so good that it was all he could do to keep his weight down. They had a pleasant dinner, and soon after they finished the meal and the dishes, Andy remembered the box and the pendant.

He reached in his pocket and took out the box; opening it, he presented it as a whole to his wife.

"Oh!!! Andy, it's so pretty, and what does it say?" Sharon asked her husband as she read the inscription. She looked at him, at the pendant lying in the box, and tears started to flow down her soft cheeks.

"Honey, it's nothing to cry about, just something to tell you how I feel," Andy said as he pulled his wife to him and kissed away her tears, before placing his lips on hers.

It was almost ten minutes before they stopped kissing long enough for Andy to place one half of the pendant around his wife's graceful neck. He didn't know what to expect. No, that's not right, he didn't really expect anything to happen, and it didn't.

Sharon took the other half and placed it around her husband's throat, and when she did, Andy felt a tingle run through his body. Things began to change the minute the pendant settled against his chest. His body started to shrink, there were contractions and expansions, hair grew and hair disappeared. His face changed radically, and so did the clothes. In less than a minute Andy had vanished, and in his place stood Andie.

She was a gorgeous woman, no doubt about it. Standing at 5'6" tall, the same height as Sharon, the transformed man couldn't tell what she looked like, but Sharon could. The person who had been her husband had long dirty blonde hair, lighter than Andy's had been, and with reddish highlights. She had gorgeous sea blue eyes, a 38C-25-38 figure that rivaled her own, which was hardly hidden by the fantastic blue dress she was wearing which left nothing to the imagination. And her legs, MY GOD! Andie's legs were one of her best features, and the three-inch heels she was wearing made them look even longer and more shapely than they really were. andijack1.jpg (44804 bytes)

'Is this really Andy?' Sharon thought, as the woman before her took a step toward her. 'Is this what he wanted? To really be a girl, all this time?' Andie took another step, and another.

"Sharon, I..." Andie started to say, and was surprised at the musical tone of her new voice. "I don't know how this happened. I didn't mean for it to happen..." The tears that had flowed from Sharon's eyes minutes before now flowed from the new woman.

"Hush! Hush!" Sharon said, as she took Andie's hand and pulled her close. Now it was her turn to offer comfort. As their bodies pressed together, the pieces of the heart came together and the last bit of magic took hold. Sharon knew at that moment that she would never lose Andie, never would have, no matter what. For her part, Andie just knew that she loved her wife now more than ever, and for the rest of the night, she showed her just how much love that was.

* * *

Sitting around an old fashioned crystal ball, a young and beautiful girl said to her boss, mentor and friend, "Gee, this turned out so much better than your usual transformations, Boss."

Sitting in the back of the store, drinking a hot cup of coffee, the Wizard said, "Yes, I think so, too. It didn't take very much magic to make Sharon see just who and what she was missing out on, and Andie's change was easier still, since that's really who he/she was all the time. Don't you dare tell anyone what I did, or I'll turn you into a boy again, an ugly boy, at that. If it gets out that I have a soft side, then I'll be drummed out of the Wizard's Union." He smiled at Dannie, his pretty assistant, and finished his coffee.
