From The Past

"Piggy Girl"

First there was Piggy Girl. We got her when I was in the 2nd grade of school, so I must have been 7 or 8 years old. I remember the day we got her. I was warned to stay away from her. But being me I just couldn't do it. Don't get me wrong, she was mean, real mean. She tried to bite anyone that got close to her.
Now I was never one to let the chance for a new pet to pass me by. So..everyday I would disapear, telling no-one where I was going or what I was doing. I was spending as much time getting Piggy Girl used to me as was possible. I would sneak a touch when I knew she couldn't reach me.
After about two weeks I thought that it was time to let someone know about her. Well one day she saw me coming out to her pen and she came running to the fence.Of course I was tickled to death that she was happy to see me. But I hadn't counted on mom looking out and catching me. She came flying out the backdoor and Piggy Girl took off. Mom yelled at me that the pig was going to eat my hand off, not that she knew I had been taming the pig. I told her that I was more careful than that and wouldn't let her bite me. Needless to say she was still uneasy with the idea. Finally she said the only time she wanted me around the pig was if Red, our Cocker Spaniel was with me. He had alwats been protective of me so she figured that if I got in trouble he would do it again. After another week mom knew I was safe as long as Red was there and a stranger to both dog and pig, stayed away. Mom let me play with them both until one day I started in the house and Red had already went in. Well..Piggy Girl tried to follow me in the house and you should have heard mom holler.Shortly after that I was in an accident that put me in the hospital and when I got out Piggy Girl was gone. They told me the man they got her from came and got her back. To this day I don't know for sure if that's what happened to her.

Nanny

"The Goat That Liked M&M's"
When we got Nanny the main reason was for goats milk to make butter and cheese. My dad taught me how to milk her but he didn't tell me that she would butt me with those horns. Then it was time for me to milk her by myself. Well she caught me right under the ribs and I was sore for a week. After that I would tie her horns to the side of the shed.
I kept messing with that goat until like the pig a few years earlier, she followed me all around the yard.
Then one day I was sitting on the step eating candy when Nanny came up and helped herself to the M&Ms. Before I could get them away from her she had eaten the whole package of them.
After telling mom what had happened I got to thinking about it and remembered that with our dogs, if you gave them something they liked they would do whatever you wanted them to. So I decieded to see how smart she was. Guess what!! She learned to walk on her hind legs and play hide and seek. Then one day she got loose. I was looking out the window when she took off. Town was about 7 blocks away, and yes that is where she headed with me ruuning along behind her. Darn no M&Ms in sight.

Jocko

Next was Jocko. He didn't belong to us but what he did is enough to get him on this page.
My aunt and uncle lived in the country and we lived in town, so a visit was something to look forward to. My cousin was also there so that made it even better. Well after a hard day of playing we were wiped out and went to bed early. About 11:00 that night I felt something jump on the bed. Not only had something gotten on the bed but it was getting under the covers. I started poking Jenny and telling her there was something there. I was so frighten , I admit I was crying. Then I screamed something hairy touched my leg. Mom came running in and turned on the lights. I don't know if I was relieved to see a Raccoon in the bed or more terrified. I just know that sleep was a thing of the past for that night. The next day they told me the raccoons name was Jocko and he was a family pet. To this day I'm not real fond of raccoons.

Casper

Then comes Casper. I could probably do a whole page on just him, some of the things he did you wouldn't believe. We got Casper when a white cat came to our house about 12 years ago. She was totally wild and I worked all winter getting her to trust me. She was not only wild but mean as well. Shortly after I got her where she didn't run from me, I noticed she was expecting kittens. She had 5 of them and they weren't wild like she was they even came when you called them. We ended up keeping 2 of them. The female we named Tabitha and the male was Casper. Tabitha belonged to my husband and Casper was mine. Tabitha ran in front of a car and got hit. By the time we found her it was too late. Casper grew into a fine looking cat. Pure white. He was mine from the start and he remained throughout his life. When he was a couple years old we got this big brown dog. They didn't care for one another at all and would fuss at each other through the door.
But I think that when we got Miss Kitty that was the finale straw for Casper. He would go past her and she would be laying down bothering no one. He would go past her and reach out and hit her on top of the head without even looking at her, never stopping. It wasn't only once he would hit her at least 3 times.
Then there was the time he frighten my mom half to death. He had certain things that you just didn't touch. One thing was a piece of carpet about a 2 foot square. He lay on it when he came in from outside. Poor mom didn't know how he was with HIS stuff. So she started to pick things up and before I could warn her she had picked up Caspers piece of carpet. She only got it about a foot off the floor when a flash of white went flying past. He hit the carpet and knocked it out of her hands which made her scream. When the carpet hit the floor Casper was spread-eagle on it. She backed away from him and went over and sat down. Then she relised what had happened and started laughing. Casper got up and walked past her growling like a bear. She never touched his things again.
We lost Casper when someone doused him with anti-freeze. I bathed him but he had already licked it off his fur. So please be careful when there are children and pets around.
