"Bring Him Home" from Les Miserables

Have I always loved cats? Well, maybe pictures speak louder than words. It's no accident that almost every photo of me when I was a child also includes a cat.

Myra & me

All the strays in our neighborhood somehow found their way to our back door, and we never turned one away.
Daddy's familyI've had the good fortune to have loved many wonderful cats during my lifetime....Spotty, Tiger, Kat, Wooley,Inky, Nosey, Opie, Lucifer (yes, he was a devil cat)....each one special in his own way. This page is dedicated to them, and to the two cats I most recently loved and lost, Gabriel & Coco. Gabie was with me for almost 16 years; Coco for only nine days, but they both live on in my heart.
Gabriel

My sweet, sweet boy. The first time I saw you, I thought that you must be the most beautiful cat in the world. Even in that ugly metal cage in the shelter you managed to look like a king. You must have been very mistreated in those months before you came home with me, because you were so afraid and mistrustful, but for some reason you decided to trust me. You were my best friend and truest companion for almost 16 years, and I don't imagine that I will ever be loved again the way that you loved me.

Coco
Coco, April, 1997-May 9, 1997
Little baby Coco, you were such a precious little girl. You were so tiny...barely 4 weeks old when you were left at the shelter. You thought you were such a big cat, though; so full of spunk and mischief. When you developed an upper respiratory infection, we knew it was serious because you were so young, but I always believed that we would be able to pull you through. It almost broke my heart when you didn't make it. I'll never forget you, little sweetheart.

The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and all our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...
