Lilly, CGC		 Pets that do this type of work need specific qualifications, as well as special commitment from their owners. The owner/pet team is evaluated before they are approved for Pet Therapy. Pets must be friendly and like attention from strangers. They must be able to take new and strange situations in stride, and react in a calm manner. Pets are required to be under good control. Owners should commit to a housebroken, well groomed and clean pet for every therapy visit. Most of our visits are about an hour in length and members are asked to make at least one visit per month.


There are five steps to you and your pet becoming a PTO team.
  1. Without your pet you will be asked to make an observation visit and accompany an established PTO team. During this visit you will see what we expect from your pet and also if you both are comfortable dealing with the sick, elderly and disabled.
  2. Complete the Application for Therapy Pet Evaluation. You will be placed on the list for the next workshop. Evaluations are done in September and March of every year.
  3. One month prior to the evaluation you and your pet will be required to attend our "Pawsitive Workshop." At this workshop you will become aware of each area in which you and your pet will be tested. You will also have the opportunity to go through a sample evaluation. If you are not ready to be formally evaluated, you will be told at this time and advised of areas in which to train. If your are ready, you will schedule your evaluation.
  4. Be evaluated and pass the exam
  5. After successfully passing the evaluation, you and your pet will make at least two visits accompanied by another PTO team. You will be evaluated in the field and educated about the visiting process.

Active memberships are open to persons 18 years of age or older living within a 50 mile radius of Springfield, Missouri. Individual and family memberships are available.
Supporting memberships are available for persons not wishing to make therapy visits with their pet.
