and be less then i was just to prove i could walk beside you

"I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have. Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free. Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or I can be gladthat my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste. Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive. Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born. Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses. Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships. Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do. Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge. Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or I can feel honored because God has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul. Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping. What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have! Have a great day...unless you have other plans."

On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every 'superstar,' every 'supreme leader,' every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. "Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."~~~Marianne Williamson

Dear Friends,
It is with the saddest heart I pass on the following: Please join me in remembering a great icon - the veteran Pillsbury spokesman. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The gravesite was piled high with flours. As long-time friend, Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, describing Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded.
Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very "smart"cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he even still, as a crusty old man, was considered a roll model for millions. Toward the end it was thought he would rise again, but alas, he was no tart.
Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough; two children, John Dough and Jane Dough; plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about twenty minutes.....

"Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at Stanford Hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who was suffering from a rare and serious disease. Her only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had miraculously survived the same disease and had developed the antibodies needed to combat the illness. The doctor explained the situation to her little brother, and asked the boy if he would be willing to give his blood to his sister. I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a deep breath and saying," yes, I'll do it if it will save Liz." As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing the color returning to her cheeks. Then his face grew pale and his smile faded. He looked up at the doctor and asked with a trembling voice, "Will I start to die right away?" Being young, the boy had misunderstood the doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his sister all of his blood.""

* Yah-hah, evil spider woman! I have captured you by the short rabbits and can now deliver you violently to your doctor for a thorough extermination.

One Lost Battle Does Not Spell Defeat, Says CBS News Correspondent Bob Schieffer In His Weekly Commentary
(CBS) The long presidential campaign is coming to an end. We don't know who won, but we will. We have had delays before and the country survived, and it will survive again.
One day soon, the counting will be done and the men who sought the presidency will accept the results - and the one who loses will congratulate the other.
Far from being easy, it may be the hardest thing either man has ever done. But I believe it will be done because both of these men are honorable men - and they will recognize their first duty is not to party and partisans, but to the country.
The advisers may well give contrary advice - and the partisans are never satisfied. But eventually, both men will thank the advisors and excuse the partisans and look within themselves and there find the answer to what they must do.
I hope the one who loses heard former President Gerald Ford the other night when he said, "As one who has lost a close election, I can tell you there is life after Inauguration Day."
The crowd loves the winner of the moment. But in history's long view, it is not always the winner of the moment who proves victorious.
One battle lost does not spell defeat nor the end of life.
The true leader is not always the one who wins, but the one who shows us what is right.

"The more things change, the more they stay the same. I'm not sure who the first person was who said that. Probably Shakespeare. Or maybe Sting. But at the moment, it's the sentence that best explains my tragic flaw, my inability to change. I don't think I'm alone in this. The more I get to know other people, the more I realize it's kind of everyone's flaw. Staying exactly the same for as long as possible, standing perfectly still... It feels safer somehow. And if you are suffering, at least the pain is familiar. Because if you took that leap of faith, went outside the box, did something unexpected... Who knows what other pain might be out there, waiting for you. Chances are it could be even worse. So you maintain the status quo. Choose the road already traveled and it doesn't seem that bad. Not as far as flaws go. You're not a drug addict. You're not killing anyone... Except maybe yourself a little. When we finally do change, I don't think it happens like an earthquake or an explosion, where all of a sudden we're like this different person. I think it's smaller than that. The kind of thing most people wouldn't even notice unless they looked at us really close. Which, thank God, they never do. But you notice it. Inside you that change feels like a world of difference. And you hope this is it. This is the person you get to be forever... that you'll never have to change again."

"The people who contributed to who I am, they are with me wherever I go. And as history gets rewritten in small ways with each passing day, my love for them only grows. Because the truth is, it was the best of times. Mistakes were made, hearts were broken, harsh lessons learned, but all of that has receded into fond memory now. How does it happen? Why are we so quick to forget the bad and romanticize the good? Maybe it's because we need to believe that the time we spent together actually meant something, that we were there for each other in a time of our lives that defined us all, a time in our lives that we will never forget."

“Remember the hours after September 11th, when we came together as one to answer the attack against our homeland. We drew strength when our firefighters ran up the stairs and risked their lives, so that others might live. When rescuers rushed into smoke and fire at the Pentagon. It was the worst day we have ever seen, but it brought out the best in all of us. I am proud that after September 11th all our people rallied to President Bush's call for unity to meet the danger. "I spoke to you in cautious tones, You answered me with no pretense. And still I feel I said too much...My silence is my self defense."
    - Billy Joel

"Sometimes it seems like we're all living in some kind of prison, and the crime is how much we all hate ourselves. It's good to get really dressed up once in a while and admit the truth -- that when you really look closely, people are so STRANGE and so COMPLICATED that they're actually BEAUTIFUL. Possibly even me."
    -My So Called Life

"For now, let him sleep. For in dreams, we enter a world that's entirely our own."
    - Harry Potter

"Where we went didn't matter. Getting away was all that counted."
    -The Wonder Years

the truth is .. everyone is going to hurt you you just have to decide who’s worth the pain

Sometimes you just have to take the leap, and build your wings on the way down.
    -Kobi Yamada

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway. If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies; Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.
    -Mother Teresa

When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.
    -"Love Actually"

    "I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are;
because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star.
    I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far;
for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are."

"There are so many stars in the sky... but only some are radiant enough to capture your attention. Among those you choose to ignore... is the one star that is willing to continue shining for you... even if your glance is somewhere else."

"I was lying in my bed one night, looking at the stars. And i was thinking, where the hell is my ceiling?"

"What's the point of being cool if you can't wear a sombrero?"
    -Hobbes, Calvin & Hobbes

"What if the Hokey-Pokey really is what it's all about?"

"I wish I had the guts to walk away and forget about what we had, but I can't because I know you won't come after me, and I guess that's what hurts the most."

"Why can't we just get together all the people in the world that we really like and then stay together? I guess that wouldn't work though. Someone would leave. Someone always leaves. And then we'd have to say goodbye. I hate good-byes. I know what I need. I need more hellos."
    –Snoopy

"Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese."
    -G. K. Chesterton

"I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."

"Smile though your heart is aching, smile even though it's breaking. Though a tear may be near, you must keep trying. Smile, what's the use in crying? You'll find that life is worthwhile, if you just smile".

"An age is called Dark, not because the light fails to shine, but because people refuse to see it."
    -James Michener

    no smile is as b e a u t i f u l as the one that struggles through t e a r s

"i opened up a container of yogurt, and under the lid it said 'Please Try Again' because they were having a contest I was unaware of. But I thought I might have opened the yogurt wrong... or maybe Yoplait was trying to inspire me, 'C'mon, Mitchell, don't give up. Please try again! A message of inspiration from your friends at Yoplait. Fruit on the bottom, hope on top.'"
    -Mitch Hedburg

Don't tell me the sky is the limit, when there are footprints on the moon.

"Where you used to be, there is a hole in the world, which I walk around in the day time, and fall into at night"
    -Breakfast At Tiffany's

"You know that place between sleep and awake, the place where you can still remember dreaming? That's where I'll always love you, Peter Pan. That's where I'll be waiting."
    –Tinkerbell

    Noah: Bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,bum,bum.
    Allie: You're a terrible singer.
    Noah: I know.
Allie: But I like this song.

Why don't you love me, Jenny? I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is.
    -Forest Gump

Joel: I could die right now, Clem. I'm just... happy. I've never felt that before. I'm just exactly where I want to be.
    - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

"If I had a personal conversation with God, I would ask him to create this girl."

“I’m not coming out of the closet because I’m not gay,” Piazza said during a telephone interview yesterday. “I’m not gay, really. Jesus, you do a few shampoo commercials and all of a sudden the whole world thinks you’re taking it up the ass. It’s not my fault I have bitchin hair.”

I didn't ask for it to be over, but then again, I never asked for it to begin. For that's the way it is with life, as some of the most beautiful days come completely by chance. But even the most beautiful days eventually have their sunsets.

When I see your smile, and I know it's not for me, that's when I'll miss you.

I wanted a perfect ending, now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity.
    -Gilda Radner

Someday, when we both reminisce we'll both say, 'There wasn't too much we missed,' and through the tears we'll smile when we recall we had it all for just a moment.
    -St. Elmo's Fire

"be nice to everyone you meet, they're fighting a battle you know nothing about."

"Perhaps he knew, as I did not, that the Earth was made round so that we would not see too far down the road."
    - Out of Africa

"The future is so bright that it burns my eyes"
    - Oprah

Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
    Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
-"How to Save a Life" by The Fray

    The Rainbow comes and goes,
    And lovely is the Rose,
    The Moon doth with delight
Look round her when the heavens are bare,
    Waters on a starry night
    Are beautiful and fair;
    The sunshine is a glorious birth;
    But yet I know, where'er I go,
That there hath past away a glory from the earth.

    --William Wordsworth (1770-1850)
Ode: Intimations of Immortality from Recollections of Early Childhood

    Credo
    by Matthew Rohrer

I believe there is something else
entirely going on but no single
    person can ever know it,
    so we fall in love.
It could also be true that what we use
everyday to open cans was something
much nobler, that we'll never recognize.
I believe the woman sleeping beside me
doesn't care about what's going on
outside, and her body is warm
    with trust
    which is a great beginning.

The reason it hurts so much to separate is because our souls are connected. Maybe they always have been and will be. Maybe we've lived a thousand lives before this one, and in each of them we've found each other.

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying good-bye so hard.

Dying is a troublesome business: there is pain to be suffered, and it wrings one's heart; but death is a splendid thing --a warfare accomplished, a beginning all over again, a triumph. You can always see that in their faces.
    -George Bernard Shaw

God's finger touched him and he slept.
    - Lord Alfred Tennyson

It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?"

Some people care too much, I think it's called love.

Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known.
