Episode 2 - Faces
ACT FOUR
INT. THE BRONZE - NIGHT
Continuing from where we left off. Buffy is in the
middle of the dance floor, surrounded by what she sees
as vampires.
She takes out her mirror and starts checking for
reflections but she can't tell anything with this mass
of people. Some people bump into her and she drops the
mirror. It gets kicked away from her.
She looks around. She sees some mirrors on the wall
far away but it doesn't help her with so many people
in the room.
ANGLE : BUFFY
as something catches her attention.
REVERSE ANGLE
From Buffy's POV, we see an affectionate vampcouple
just off the dance floor. The vampguy is kissing the
vampgirl on her face, being very affectionate. He then
slowly goes to her neck, starting to kiss there.
ANGLE : BUFFY
as she takes out her stake.
PAN TO: THE COUPLE
who we see, in reality, as two humans. Just a guy,
necking a girl.
ANGLE : SKEET
who is still standing by the door, watching the
proceedings. He nods his head.
ANGLE : VINCENT
on the dance floor who catches Skeet's signal and
looks to two other vamps on the dance floor, nodding
his head.
ANGLE ON : A MALE AND FEMALE VAMP
The same two vamps Buffy saw earlier in the night who
led her to the Bronze. They look at each other and
spread out.
CUT TO: OVERHEAD SHOT OF THE DANCE FLOOR
showing Buffy in the middle and the three vamps,
spread out and slowly working their way towards her,
through the mass of revellers.
EXT. SUNNYDALE STREET - NIGHT
Back with Willow, Anya, Xander and Giles, who are
confronted by the two vamps.
XANDER
(to Anya)
An, stay behind me.
Xander pulls Anya behind her and raises his stake.
The vamps attack. Giles and Xander step up to confront
them while Willow and Anya hang back. Willow is trying
to get something out from a bag.
Xander and Giles duke it out with the two vamps. They
are losing. Both Xander and Giles are knocked to the
ground.
ANGLE : WILLOW
WILLOW
Fiat Lux.
as she throws down a vial which causes a bright flash
of light, temporarily blinding the vamps.
Giles takes the opportunity to stake Vamp#1. Vamp#2
recovers and knocks Giles away, knocking his stake
away at the same time. He starts heading towards
Xander, who is still on the ground, a little blinded
himself.
Anya sees this and grabs the stake Giles dropped and
rushes towards the vamp. She stakes him in the back on
the right.
The vamp turns around and stares at Anya.
ANYA
(backing away)
Poof. You're supposed to go poof
now.
The vamp then does go poof, revealing Xander who has
just staked him in the back.
XANDER
An, the heart is on the left,
remember?
ANYA
Well, his back was turned. I was
thinking was it his left, or my
left? It's all very confusing.
XANDER
(kisses Anya on the
forehead)
Never mind, points for effort.
Willow goes to help Giles up.
WILLOW
Let's go find Buffy. Who knows what
kind of trouble she's in.
INT. THE BRONZE - NIGHT
as we see the three vamps closing in on Buffy on the
dance floor. Buffy is still looking towards the
necking couple but she also senses something is
closing in on her.
The vamps get very close. They vamp out (for real).
ANGLE : MALE VAMP
vamped out and getting very close to Buffy, about to
strike.
ANGLE : BUFFY
looking very tense, staring in the direction of the
couple.
ANGLE ON : THE NECKING COUPLE
through Buffy's POV, we see the Vampguy look like he's
about to bite down on Vampgirl's neck.
ANGLE : BUFFY
as she can't wait any longer. She lifts her stake and
flings it towards the couple.
We TRACK the flight of the stake as it speeds towards
the couple. The stake misses the guy, instead slamming
into a fire alarm panel behind them, breaking the
glass. An alarm rings out. People begin to panic and
surge out of the main entrance.
ANGLE : MALE VAMP
He stands frozen as people surge past him heading for
the exit. Buffy notices him and throws a bottle of
holy water at him. It hits him and he starts to burn.
Buffy rushes forward with another stake and stakes
him.
ANGLE : FEMALE VAMP
who is behind Buffy. She grabs a male clubber and
flings him towards Buffy.
The guy crashes into Buffy's back. Buffy reaches back
and flings him over her shoulder. He falls flat on the
ground. Buffy raises her stake but notices that he is
wearing a cross around his neck. She stops.
Female vamp sees an opportunity and charges towards
Buffy. Buffy turns around and raises her stake. Female
vamp freezes in front of Buffy, putting her hands up.
FEMALE VAMP
No! Stop!
Buffy indicates with her eyes for the vamp to look
behind her. The vamp turns around to look.
REVERSE ANGLE
to show Buffy's reflection in the mirror behind them
but no vamp reflection.
ANGLE : FEMALE VAMP
with Buffy behind her, with her stake raised.
FEMALE VAMP
Oh Sh..
She turns into dust as Buffy stakes her in the back.
ANGLE : VINCENT
standing there frozen. He decides to make a run for
it, charging out of the club past Skeet with a few
clubbers.
ANGLE : SKEET
as he stands by the now unlocked exit. People are
still charging out around him. He glares at Buffy.
Buffy looks back at him, triumphant.
SKEET
(to Buffy)
You may have won this day, slayer
but mark my words, this is not the
last you have seen of me. I shall
have my vengeance and I will ..
Skeet's speech is abruptly interrupted when more
exiting clubbers run into him, taking him out of the
club with them.
SKEET (O.S.)
Bloody hell.
ANGLE : BUFFY
as she walks slowly towards a mirror. She stares at
her own vamp reflection, gently touching her face.
Suddenly, the spell wears off and her face is normal
again. She continues staring at her own reflection.
XANDER (O.S.)
Buffy!
Buffy turns around to see non-vamped Xander, Willow,
Anya and Giles entering the now deserted club.
ANYA
(to Giles)
I told you she was here. Always
follow the sound of screaming
mortals.
WILLOW
Buffy, are you okay?
GILES
Yes, what happened?
Buffy just looks at her friends with a smile.
BUFFY
It's great to see you guys.
INT. THE MAGIC BOX - DAY (DAY 5)
The Magic Box is closed. The entire Scooby gang is
here. Xander, Anya, Willow, Tara and Dawn are helping
Giles reshelve some books and sort some new arrivals.
Willow and Tara are in one corner of the shop. Anya
and Xander and Dawn are sorting through some new books
at a table.
ANGLE : WILLOW AND TARA.
Willow is on a step-ladder and Tara is handing her
books to shelve. Tara hands a book to Willow.
TARA
I can take over if you like. You've
been shelving all day. You should
grab a chair, you know, get off your
feet.
WILLOW
I'm okay. Besides, my tush is still
sore from the fight. I think it
should cancel all further meetings
with flat, solid objects.
TARA
(looking up admiringly)
I don't know. It looks fine from
where I'm standing.
The two share a sly smile. Dawn arrives with a stack
of books.
DAWN
Whatchya talking about? What looks
fine?
WILLOW
(innocent face)
Nothing.
TARA
(re the books)
More books?
DAWN
Yup. Direct from the sorting table
via Broomstick Express.
Dawn hands all the books in her hands to Tara.
ANGLE : XANDER AND ANYA AT THE TABLE
Xander and Anya, talkin' and sortin'.
ANYA
I mean, I feel so useless. I hate
feeling useless.
XANDER
What are you talking about? You're
not useless.
ANYA
Willow and Tara are these powerful
witches. Giles is a Watcher and
Buffy is Buffy. Even Dawn is
starting to dabble in magic. Pretty
soon, she's going to be more useful
than I am. What are we? We're
nothing.
XANDER
An, you're just missing your powers.
It's normal to feel -- Hey!, when
did 'I' become a 'we'?
ANYA
The only thing I'm good at is
managing the shop and handling
money. One day, you're all going to
realise that you'll do just as well
without me.
Xander takes Anya's hand and plays with her engagement
ring.
XANDER
I don't know about anybody else but
I know that I'd be nowhere without
you. And one day, not far from now,
there'll be another ring on this
finger to prove that.
They smile and kiss.
Buffy enters from the training room, a little sweaty
after a bout of training.
BUFFY
Hey there you two love-birds.
XANDER
Hey, Buffy. Breaking from training?
BUFFY
Pouring from sweating.
Dawn walks back to the sorting table to collect some
more books.
BUFFY
(to Dawn)
Hey Dawn. I'm taking a little break.
You wanna, you know, hang out or
something?
DAWN
That's Okay. I've got to go help
Willow and Tara.
Dawn collects some more books and returns to Willow
and Tara.
BUFFY
(to Xander)
That's good right? I mean, that
she's got people to hang out with,
people who aren't me.
XANDER
Give it time. Things will work
themselves out.
Buffy looks unconvinced.
XANDER
So, I'll bet you're glad you're
finally rid of vamp-vision.
BUFFY
So not missing it. I hope Skeet and
his gang will lay low for a while
cos I'm really not in a mood for any
more surprises.
The doorbell rings. A well-dressed man in a suit and a
white shirt enters. He is in his mid-thirties, well-
built, dark and handsome. He has dark rings under his
eyes, tired eyes.
ANYA
(to the stranger)
We're closed.
STRANGER
(speaking with a British
accent)
I'm looking for a Rupert Giles. Is
he here?
Buffy sees the stranger and raises her eyebrows. Not
bad.
ANYA
(yelling)
Giles, there's some British guy here
to see you.
The stranger walks confidently towards the table where
Buffy is. He sees her.
STRANGER
You must be Buffy, the ever-famous
slayer.
BUFFY
Who are you?
STRANGER
My name is of no importance but I
believe you are familiar with my
designation. I'm a Watcher.
GILES (O.S.)
Christopher?
All eyes turn to Giles who has just emerged from the
training room.
ANGLE : GILES
A stunned look on his face, speechless.
CHRISTOPHER
Hello Ripper. Quentin sends his
regards.
BLACKOUT
