I got it running fairly well and put the transmission in.  I had the transmission professionally rebuilt at a very reputable (but not cheap, $2400) transmission shop.  Here's a picture of the beauty installed.
I know it doesn't look like a lot has changed in the enginc compartment since the last picture but here's what I did.  Painted the vinyl firewall,  cleaned and painted the relays, replaced the starter valve seal, replaced the brake vacuum hose, installed the intake hose, installed the three new V belts, installed the fan, installed new plugs, NEW plug wires, NEW cap, NEW rotor, NEW condensor, NEW points, NEW coil, installed washer bottle and washer hoses, NEW hood latch cable  and installed the air conditioning compressor.  I intend on selling the car without charging the AC as the new owner may not want it or may want ot convert to 134A instead of paying hundreds of dollars on R12.
I've only logged 150 miles on it since the rebuild.  It runs GREAT and shifts nice and hard.  Here are the final pictures of the finished product.
