Bernice Edith Roberts went to be with the Lord, August 14th, 2002.
Bernice was an honorary
member of Prince George Beta Sigma Phi for many years. She attended chapter
meetings with Laureate Eta until some of its members formed Upsilon Master
chapter and Bernice progressed with them. Bernice judged the annual Yearbook
contest, counted the secret "Woman of the Year" ballots for the chapters,
and presented the awards at Founder's Day. Her cheerful smile will be greatly
missed at Founder's Day Dinners and other inter-chapter events.
Bernice worked at the
Prince George Citizen, the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation, and
the British Columbia Ministry of Lands.
She was
the official chaperone for Queen Aurora and her party for many years. She
was active in several areas of ministry in the First Baptist Church, especially
in the Seniors' Ministry. Her interest in genealogy took her to the Salt
Lake City archives in search of family records.
On 20 November 1997,
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh celebrated their Golden Wedding. A special
Garden Party for couples celebrating their Golden Wedding was held at Buckingham
Palace in July. Bernice and Herb were greatly honoured to be chosen to
attend this event.
Bernice is survived by
her loving husband, Herbert, of 55 years; sons: Ken (Linda), Alan (Jan)
of Surrey, B.C., and Randy; grandchildren: Nick, Christine, Leslie, Heather;
brother Neil (Lorna) Phillips of Westbank, B.C.; sister: Jean Diehl of Souris,
Manitoba.
