STATISTICAL REPORTING PROCEDURES

Please use these procedures to save statistics from your home games and report them to the Commissioner and to opposing managers. Separate procedures are provided those using SOM by computer and SOM manually with Dice. Statistical reports will be used to compile league statistics and standings and provide feedback to opposing managers on their team's performance in road games and usage of their players on the road.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE CONTACT MARTIN STOOPS (mdstoops@sbcglobal.net).

IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT RESULTS BE SENT TO BOTH THE COMMISSIONER AND TO THE OPPOSING MANAGER ON A TIMELY BASIS!!

SOM by Computer

Statistics will be reported through Game Result files. In addition, Subset Stat files will be saved by each home manager as a backup to Game Result files. Box scores will also be reported.

1. At the start of each game, make sure the Game Export Files box is checked on the lineup screen.

2. At the conclusion of each game, save stats to one of the Subset Stat files numbered 0 to 9. Name these files as follows:

Visiting Team - use one Subset Stat file for each series; name this file as "vvvXXhhh" where

"vvv" is SOM's three letter abbreviation for the visiting team

"XX" is the series number from the schedule

"hhh" is SOM's three letter abbreviation for the home team

For example, for the Seattle at Oakland series on May 4-5-6, the subset stat file for Seattle would be named - "sea51oaa"

Home Team - use one Subset Stat file for each series; name this file as "hhhXXvvv" where

"hhh" is SOM's three letter abbreviation for the home team

"XX" is the series number from the schedule

"vvv" is SOM's three letter abbreviation for the visiting team

For example, for the Seattle at Oakland series on May 4-5-6, the subset stat file for Oakland would be named "oaa51sea"

Note that you will run out of available subset stat files for the home team. Therefore, it is highly recommended that at the end of each calendar month that you move the subset stat files for the home team to another subdirectory on your hard drive. See paragraph 5 below.

DO NOT USE THE SUBSET STAT FILES "BY MONTH" OR "VS. TEAM". USE ONLY THE SUBSET STAT FILES NUMBERED 0 TO 9. The Subset Stat files "by month" and "vs. team" cannot be compiled into the common league statistical data base!

3. At the conclusion of each game when the box score appears on the screen, select the box score, play-by-play and scoresheet option and save this as a ".prt" file, naming the file as "hhhXXg" where

"hhh" is SOM's three letter abbreviation for the home team

"XX" is the series number from the schedule

"g" is a letter designating the game in this series (a = 1st game, b = 2nd game, c = 3rd game, d = 4th game, e = 5th game)

For example, the file for the Seattle at Oakland game on May 4th would be "oaa51a".

4. At the each series, send the following to Martin Stoops, PGL-MLB Commissioner, via e-mail (MDStoops@aol.com) and to the visiting manager:

Two Subset Stat files - one each for the visiting team and the home team (in Subsets subdirectory)

All Box Score ".prt" files from your home games that month (in Print/2002pg subdirectory)

All Game Result files - two per game, one each for the visiting team and the home team (in Export subdirectory)

Note: Names for game result files will be "2002pgxy.hnn" for the home team and "2002pgxy.vnn" for the visiting team, where:

"x" is a single letter or number designating the visiting team

"y" is a single letter or number designating the home team

"nn" is a two-digit number indicating the sequence of games between these two teams for the entire season (01 is the first game, 02 is the second game, 03 is the third game, etc.)

The single letter or number designating teams in these file names should be as follows:

BAA = 0 (zero)

ARN = d

BOA = 1 (one)

ATN = e

CHA = 2

CHN = f

CLA = 3

CIN = g

DEA =4

FLN = h

KCA = 5

HON = I (Letter "I")

LAA = 6

LAN = j

MLA = k

NYNN = l (Letter "L")

MNA = 7

PHN = m

NYA = 8

PIN = n

OAA = 9

SLN = o (Letter "O")

SEA = a

SDN = p

TEA = b

SFN = q

TOA = c

WAN = r

Please use WinZip to compress your files before e-mailing them. Note that AOL will do this automatically if you are an AOL subscriber.

NOTE: If your opponent for this series is NYA (Ron Nielson), send printed copies of the primary stat report for his team (available using the Team Statistics menu and selecting the Subset Stat file for this series) and printed copies of the box score from each game via snail mail to Ron Nielson.

5. After sending the results of a series to the Commissioner and opposing mangaer, move all Game Export Files to the Exported subdirectory so that you will know you have previously sent these files. Also, you will periodically need to move and rename subset stat files for your team to another subdirectory of your choice so that you will be able to reuse the subset stat files numbered 0 through 9. I recommend you create a new directory on your hard drive titled PGL Stats and move your subset stat files to this directory (I recommend you do this at the end of each calendar month). Please retain all game result files, subset stat files and Box Score ."prt" files on your hard drive until the end of the season.

SOM Manually by Dice

Statistics reports for each series (for visiting teams) and for each month (for the home team) will be provided as follows:

1. At the end of each series, send the following statistical reports via snail mail or e-mail to Martin Stoops and the opposing manager:

For each visiting team, one statistical report compiling the visiting team's statistics for that 2, 3 or 5 game series

For the home team, one statistical report compiling the home team's statistics for that 2, 3 or 5 game series

These statistical reports shall include, at a minimum, the following statistics:

For Hitters: Games, At Bats, Runs, Hits, Doubles, Triples, Home Runs, Runs Batted In, Walks, Strikeouts, Stolen Bases, Caught Stealing, Hit by Pitch, Sacrifice Bunts, Grounded into Double Play, Errors

For Pitchers: Games, Games Started, Complete Games, Shutouts, Wins, Losses, Saves, Innings Pitched (including 1/3's of innings), Hits, Walks, Strikeouts, Runs, Earned Runs, Home Runs Allowed, Errors

For Each Game: The final linescore showing for both teams Runs, Hits, Errors, Left on Base, Double Plays, Triple Plays and LH or RH for the starting pitcher. Indicate any extra inning games and the number of innings

DOUBLE CHECK YOUR STATS TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE COMPLETE (i.e. stats are reported for all players, etc.) AND ACCURATE (i.e. the number of wins reported equals the number of losses reported, the number of home runs hit by hitters equals the number of home runs allowed by pitchers, etc.)
