"HEAVEN'S WAGER" by Ted Dekker | |||||||
1. What did you think of this book? 2. What did you think of Kent's reaction to the completion of AFPS? 3. Do you believe that people could actually do today what Helen did -- close their eyes and see into Heaven? 4. On page 105 it says, "Her time seemed to be divided equally between two realities. The reality in which she cried pitifully, chastising God for this mad plan, begging for relief, and the reality in which she bowed and shook and wept, humbled to have heard God at all." a) Why are humans so fickle -- chastising God one minute, then praising Him the next? 5. Why does the appeal of money lure so many people? Why do they think that having just "one more thing" would make them happy? 6. Do you believe the vagrant in the alley (behind the bank) was a real person? Or, was he a messenger? If you think he was a messenger, do you think Satan sent him? 7. Helen was a living, breathing miracle. It was only by the power of God that she could walk and pray for 8 hours every day. Do miracles happen today? Have you witnessed any? 8. Do you believe Cliff (the snowboarder/coworker) was a real person, or an "angel among us"? Have you ever met someone you supposed might be an angel? 9. On page 251 it says, "...Paul's idea of admirable and noble is quite different from ours. God forgive us, Bill. We have mocked His victory by whitewashing the enemy for the sake of our neighbor's approval." a) Why do we do that? Why do we try to make things sound better than they are? Why can't we accept the bad things as well as the good? 10. While in New York, Kent comes to the realization that having money didn't bring him happiness like he'd once believed it would. He realized that, without the love and friendship of God and other people, there was nothing to live for. How are we like the old Kent -- the one that thinks having money means being happy? |
