"REDEEMING LOVE" by Francine Rivers | ||||||||||
1. Francine has written, "I believe we all serve someone in our lives." Consider the following characters from the book. Who do they serve? And what impact does that "service" have in their lives and the lives of those around them? Alex Stafford, Mae (Angel's mother), Cleo, Miriam Altman, Paul, the Dutchess, Duke, Angel, Michael Hosea. 2. Francine wrote in her introductory letter, "We are all given gifts from our Father, and our purpose is to offer them to Him." Sometimes we forget that everyone has been given gifts from the Father. Do you see people in the light of God's torch in their lives? What gifts did the following characters have that they could offer to the Father? Miriam, Paul, Ruth Altman, Angel, Michael. 3. What would make someone withold offering his or her gifts to God? What are the gifts in your life that you can offer to the Father? Is there anything that keeps you from doing so? 4. What is it that makes the character Michael Hosea so appealing? 5. What did you feel when Angel continued to return to her life of sin? Frustration? Anger? Disdain? How do you think God feels when we continue to turn away from Him and give in to our own wills and ways? What does this story teach us about ourselves and our weaknesses? About how we should act toward those who turn away from God's grace? 6. What does "grace" mean to you? Angel struggled with the fact that there was nothing, in and of herself, that she could offer to God in return for His gift of salvation. Why is it so difficult to grasp the concept of God's grace? When was a time in your life that you felt you truly experienced grace? How can you show grace to those around you? 7. Angel was driven to God by desperation. What drove you to the ultimate Lover? 8. What are some of the evidences that God was with Angel, even in the darkest moments of her life? What are some evidences you've seen in your own life that God is with you? 9. In her introduction, Francine wrote, "I had given myself to the Lord, and He had something else in mind." Michael Hosea dedicated his life to God, and yet the woman God gave him was faithless and infuriating. How can we learn to rest in Him, even when life is far from what we think it should be? 10. Michael and Angel experienced Romans 8: "If we are to share [Christ's] glory, we must also share his suffering." What does the term "Called into a fellowship of suffering" mean to you? Why do you think a loving God would call us to suffer in life? 11. When you see or read about women like Angel, what do you feel? What do you think? Has God forgotten about those who are trapped in darkness? 12. How did Michael finally break through Angel's walls? What does that show us about dealing with those who are in bondage to lies and deception? 13. How can we, as followers of Christ, reach out to those who are caught up in the world? |
