This topic is split into two parts, each in its own chapter. Part 1, as Chapter 3, precedes Chapter 4,
which discusses the elementary transcendental functions (ETFs), and Part 2 follows the ETFs and is
Chapter 5. Part 1 contains material needed, directly or indirectly, by the study of the ETFs or their
applications. Part 2 contains nothing of such a need, and thus is placed after the ETFs so that it can freely
present examples and problems that involve them.
