Buying Diary 23rd Feburary Yey, its my birthday soon and Ill be 18 so I can get a credit card to pay for all the stuff I need. 5th march Have also started buying stuff. I got; The fleece; Attack alarm; and Chain 22nd March Have got my debit card and have bought some more stuff; South-east Asia on a Shoestring, a day bag and a long-sleeved top. Its very nice. 31st March I just ordered the water filter from Actiongear, though Im not sure if it worked all not because they have to check my card is acceptable first. Also South-east Asia on a Shoestring, which I ordered before, hasn't come yet because the parcel got lost, typical! Hopefully it should be here by Tuesday. 4th April Got the book, its really brill. Also got my water filter, which is very nice, BUT had a nasty surprise in the form of £19 customs charges (cos it was delivered from USA) and also the shipping was much more expensive than I was quoted. I have emailed the company asking for an explanation, but I wont be ordering stuff from abroad again, its got too many hidden charges and such so I definately wouldnt recommend it. (****ing Americans!) 10th April I just finished my Pass Plus course (driving thing) so thats one less thing for me to worry about. I also just sent off my order from the WCE shop, eek, a moment of recklessness? I hope not. But it means I can get my shoes and break them in before I go and try out the pack towel. 14th April There was a bit of a problem with my order, they dont take my card so I had to 'borrow' a checque from my mum. The order should come through in 10 days or so. 19th April Yey, Ive got my stuff. The shoes are nice, they need breaking though and the other stuff is really cool too. I also bought a nice shirt today, mainly cos Ive no clothes but it would probably be useful when I go away. 5th May Yey, I should get my new credit card soon, then Ill be BUYING loads of stuff! 18th May I just bought a nice bar of solid shampoo from Lush. Its really cool and compact, lasts ages and great for travelling. 23nd May I got the soap today, it smells lovely and is great. I also went out and bought loads of stuff. I got a travel adapter, some sandals, a ball of string and some other stuff, considered getting sun cream but they didnt have the right SPF and thought about getting mosquito spray but it cost a bomb and my mum can get it cheaper, so Ill wait for then. I also got a new top.:-D 4th June I made my sleeping sheet today. I used an old sheet and borrowed my Grans sewing machine and made a passable imitation of a real sleeping sheet (though I accidentally did it a bit inside out, so the pillow case bits on the outside) I might put out a plan for it here so all yous can save £9.99 as well! And my sister made me some useful drawstring bags. Thanks Katy! 5th June Bought lots of stuff today: mosquito spray and sun cream (v. cheap in ADSA) laundry soap and considered sending off big orders to Nomad and Oswald Bailey, but have changed them slightly so didnt.. I nearly bought some perfect trousers in TKMAXX but they didnt fit round my huge butt (see pic in NicePhotos) 7th June Im thinking of selling that water filter. It depresses me everytime I see it cos it cost so much. Ive put it on some advertising sites for £45 to £60 and see how it goes. If I can sell it great- I can get a cheaper one. If not- that doesnt really matter either but Ill feel bad a lot cos I spent sooo much and now Im having a money crisis and its very annoying and stressful. 10th June I havnt got anywhere selling that filter yet- no one seems interested. I have also been told by my project manager who said they arent really that useful so 'save your money', not much good to me thanks to my stupid impulsive streak. However, I talked to my parents and they said they could use it for trips to our wood on the IOW and that I could just keep it in case I use it someday so I feel better about it now. Parents are great arn't they. 15th June Good news! My sister is taking a trip up to London sometime, conveniently near a Nomad shop, and she has kindly offered to get my order, saving me £3.50! Cool huh? 11th June I just bought a jacket. Its very nice, navy blue with a hood and a little bag. Its also not too long- I hate long jackets and doesnt have those annoying elasticated cuffs which dig into your wrists. All this for only £16.99 from Millets (and my Mum decided to pay £10 towards it because it was clothes- even better!) 25th July Vicky (my sister) has got the stuff from Nomad for me, its really cool. The medical kit is great, though I had so swap a few things with my mum as I was allergic to them (plasters, micripore tape and also the asprins cos I dont like them), and the Deet and Net treatment is cool too. I put the net treatment kit in a little bag with a lable on the front and it looks soooo neat! I also bought some socks from ASDA which have funny squishy stuff in, which is apparently some kind of oder eater, but also makes them nice and padded. 3rd August Ive just had some relatives suggest I borrow their mosquito net. They travel a lot so they have lots of travel stuff which theyll let me use. Nice huh, so I might save £6.99. 5th August Unfortunatly, I just ripped a hole in the trousers I was planning to take with me to Malaysia. Not only does this mean I have more to buy, it also means Im going on holiday next week and my clothes department is in a dire situation- I only have one pair of decent trousers! 7th August Phew! I just bought some new trousers, £14.99 from TKMaxx. They're sand coloured, nice and baggy (lots of ventilation) and by Billabong which is apparently a good make, not that I really know much about that. I also got myself some new glasses; a normal pair and some sunglasses, something Ive never had before so its a new experience for me. My poor credit card is exhausted after all that shopping! (£130.00 altogether!-eek!) 18th August I went to Lyndhust on my holiday and found a neck wallet and gaffa tape in Leisure fayre for cheaper than in Oswald Bailey, £3.95 and £1.05 respectivly. Also I found some Regatta Action trousers in Romsey, Chas E. Smiths, for £15.95, which my mum has kindly agreed to pay for. Yey! 21st August I just bought my hat, socks and a few T-shirts, the last things I (well, my mum really) had to buy. Which means, once Ive bought my insurance and ID card (hopefully) , I wont have to spend any more money untill I get to Malaysia! YEY! 22nd August Just got my mosquito net from my Uncle John. Its green and tomorrow Im going to treat it with permithrin if its nice and if we're not having a BBQ. Ive also decided not to take my sleeping bag because; 1. It is very hot out there. 2. It takes up too much room. and 3. I have a sleeping sheet which is both cooler and smaller. 31st August YEY. My mum has kindly offered to pay for my malarials and pharmacutical things, which I protested against really as theyll cost aroud £70 altogether, but she insisted. Im rapidly coming to the conclusion that my parents are really lovely (not that I didnt know that already :-)) I m going to send off for my ISIC card today too which will leave me with nothing left to get and Ill be all ready.
