| I only spent one night in Vietnam, in Ho Chi Minh city. It was a free stopover tour from Vietnam Airlines on the way back from Australia. It took some sorting out but it was worth it as Vietnam is a great country. Flying over it was beautiful, it was so rural and green, and I actually saw the whole picking rice in a cocohat thing which was a beautiful scene. Im definatly going back there for a closer look. |
| A fun city, bustling with mopeds and people and full of shopping delights such as snake wine and cocohats. I really liked it because it was so busy and exciting. Plus getting to grips with dong- the local currency was fun because its one of those £1 = 20000 dong type ones. I also used US Dollars a bit too. I stayed and ate at the Que Huong Liberty 3 hotel- paid for by Vietnam airlines. The food here was good and the hotel was clean and comfortable. I was slightly surprised by this because I was expect the airline to be jippo and put us up in some skanky dump, but no, this hotel cost them about £30 for the night! |

| The tunnels at Chu chi are where the guerrila foces hung out during the Vietnam war. During the tour here I got to go inside the tunnels- an eye opening thing as they were so small, even after they'd been widened for tourist use! I couldnt believe people actually lived in there for so long. I was also shown some of the methods used to kill American soldiers- spiky pitfalls, trip wires and all the hardware like bombs and tanks. This hole was the best thing- I went in and it was all dark- when it was covered in leaves you couldnt see at all. Me and James were challenged to find it but we couldn't, then the guy popped out just like that. |
| Also at Chu chi I tried my hand at making rice paper and tried rice wine: whoa that stuff was strong! Im not good with alcohol so I'm surprised it didn't knock me straight out! |
