Charles R. Uy

the Silver Medalist for Drama in the 24th Annual Student Oscars (the Academy Award for Student Films of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences), is a Filipino-American student filmmaker born and raised in Queens, New York. He was an observer at the Actors Studio and finished his Bachelor of Fine Arts at New York City's School of Visual Arts where he received citations for outstanding director and outstanding film for Waiting in the Wings. He had also been conferred the best student minority filmmaker award by the Directors Guild of America; the national award for drama by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; the regional award for drama by the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences; the International Communications Competition Gold Plaque award for student short subject. Fil-Am Expo '97 honored him with the Great Achievers Award for Filmmaking while the Knights of Rizal bestowed on him the Dr. Jose Rizal Award for Scholastic Achievement. During a recent visit to his parents' homeland, he expressed his willingness to practice his craft in the country.
