We'd been trying to come up with a kennel name that we both liked as we were planning our first litter that following spring.
Oh, we'd come up with lots of names, but nothing we both felt would relay how we felt about this wonderful breed, and our future goals.
As fate would have it the 1994 Winter Olympics were on television and being avid fans of course we were watching.
Women's downhill skiing happened to be on and the broadcaster was giving a bio on one of the skiers.
It went something like this....This young woman comes from a free spirited family, who didn't get around to naming her until she was three, when she needed a passport for a trip to Central America with her family.  Her folks chose "Picabo" (pronounced peek-a-boo), after the Indian name for their favorite trout stream, "Silver Creek", also know as "Shining Water."
We heard in detail how focused she was on her chosen sport.  How she had her priorities straight.  To be the best she could be, to overcome those obstacles and injuries and be a better person for it.......
We looked at each other, and somehow, someway we each took those words and they had a special meaning for each of us.
Yes, we had found our kennel name at last.
The Dream Catcher was originally made by tribes from a hoop of bent willow with a webbing of sinew.   Native Americans sometimes carried them in dances and ceremonies.  Hung from a baby's cradleboard or near the sleeping area in the lodge, it was believed to sort dreams.  The bad dreams were caught in the web, while the good dreams flowed through to the dreamer.   Thus our logo......the bad dreams are still caught in the web, and the good dreams flow to our newfoundlands.
Dream Catcher
I Let Your Good Dreams Pass On Through,
But Bad Dreams All I Catch For You,
I'll Hold Them Fast Till Morning Light,
Then Let Those Bad Dreams All Take Flight.
Currently we are members of several  Clubs, and are as active in each as time allows.  We definately suggest joining a club in your area as there is no better way to learn and enjoy doing things with your companions.  We have learned so much, from many knowledgable people.  Our sincerest thank you to all who have generously  helped us in so many ways.  Clubs we are currently members of are:  Newfoundland Club of America, Niagara Frontier Newfoundland Club, Oatka Newfoundland Club, Genesee Region Newfoundland Club, Newfoundland Dog Club of Canada, Dave is also a member of the Kennel Club of Buffalo and Therapy Dogs International.  Visit our links page to visit web sites for these clubs and other great information.
We've had the great fortune to not only show some of our dogs in confirmation, but to be able to do obedience training, draft work, water and  therapy work.
The basis for everything you'll ever want to do with your companion.  Check out and attend an obedience school in your area.
You don't have to try for a title, but you surely want a companion you can be proud of in all ways.
Angel loves her dad
We have lots of fun with our dogs doing draft work.  We've been in parades, hauled Christmas Trees during the holiday to help raise money for those less fortunate.
Work around the house hauling whatever might be needed and I can't forget to mention that the Grandchildren love to have rides whenever they visit.
"Help! Dog Help!"
Can be heard all summer on Lake Lamke as friends gather with us for water training.
What  a wonderful opportunity to achieve our goals.
Spend the day with friends......Good company,  good food, and good training.  What more could a person ask for?
Blaze does therapy
There can be nothing more rewarding than doing therapy work with your companions.
