Santos worthy winners over Rangers

A goal in each half made Santos worthy 2-1 winners over Manning Rangers in their Castle Premier League soccer match at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night. Santos led 1-0 at half-time.

This is Rangers' second successive loss as they were beaten last week by Orlando Pirates.

Play was confined to midfield, but on the break Santos were more dangerous. The home side opened the score in the 31st minute when Vincent Sokhela put through a pass to Daniel Sekhoto whose shot was misjudged by goalkeeper Grant Johnson and the ball rolled in.

Two minutes before the break Rangers were unlucky when a corner kick from the right was headed just over the bar by Sipho Ndzyzo.

In the 54th minute a good cross by John Mbidzo went to Abram Raselewane who controlled the ball off his chest and then blasted high over the bar.

At the other end Craig Mentz did well as he came out his goals to kick the ball away from Bruce Ramakogadi.

In the 71st minute Sekhoto was sent off after a second booking, the first coming in the 16th minute.

Seven minutes later Johnson was booked by referee Paul Marques for striking Mbidzo. This was brought to his attention by assistant referee Norman Litsig.

Santos went further ahead two minutes from time when Mbdizo crossed and Sokhelo dive headed the ball in.

In injury time Keryn Jordan pulled one back for Rangers. - Sapa
