Rangers go down fighting

Manning Rangers dropped their seventh point in three successive home games in the space of a week in this entertaining 3-3 draw with Santos played in pouring rain most of the second half.

Rangers fielded a scratch side with several key players missing through suspension or injury striker Gilbert Mushangazhike was reintroduced following a two-match suspension. But he lasted only 52 minutes when he was red-carded by referee George Tladi for retaliation following a tackle on him by Santos' central defender Edries Burton.

Rangers went a goal down against the run of play in the 18th minute when Aldrid Miller, Tyren Arendse and Abram Raselemane all combined brilliantly before Bennett Masinga sent an unstoppable shot past Rangers' goalkeeper Grant Johnson.

Rangers levelled in the 39th minute when Bruce Ramokadi followed up a rebound off a shot by Mushangazhike to score with a deflected shot past Santos' goalkeeper Orwin Castel. Rangers took the lead in the 62nd minute when Mandla Zwane pounced on another rebound from a shot by substitute Regan Stuart to pick his spot past Castel. Two defensive blunders cost Rangers two goals. The first in the 76th minute saw Langston Mahlangu caught flat-footed when attempting to clear the ball but it stuck in a puddle and Raselemane ran in to hit the ball past Johnson.

Then in the 80th minute Mark Davies misjudged his jump and the ball sailed over his head to Raselemane who passed to Arendse and Masinga finished off the move with a good shot past Johnson. Santos' joy was short-lived as Rangers counter-attacked from the restart with Ramokadi feeding Moloi for a well deserved face-saving equaliser.
