Ajax stop Rangers juggernaut

With Rangers brimming full of confidence and the team performing as well as coach Igesund predicted early in the season. Indeed, if promises are anything to go by then Igesund can be taken at his word because with a full complement of players at his disposal, Zimbabwean striker Gilbert Mushangazhike struck home for his second in as many games in the 5th minute with a header from a Japhet Zwane cross.

With the Maulers defence of Davies, Muir, Muianga and Ndzuzo standing out. Ajax were reduced to long range shots at Grant Johnson in front of the posts. Ajax, persisting with their diamond shape attacking style adopted from parent club Ajax Amsterdam, did come close in the 2nd half with former championship winning Rangers player David Modise dribbling his way down the left flank and after crossing in the 6-yard box to an unmarked David Kannemeyer who headed over the post with the goals at his mercy.

Ajaxs goal was rather fortuitous as Bradley Muir in trying to keep out a David Modise cross managed to deflect the ball into the back of the net.

Unbeaten now in 4 matches, Rangers can now go into their Rothmans Cup Quarter-Final fixture against Tembisa Class next week full of confidence. The squad is finally starting to gel together with increasingly better performances from a solid looking defence and ever threatening midfield.
