VALENTINE'S DAY: YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART

VALENTINE'S DAY: YOU GOTTA HAVE HEART

FEBRUARY 14, 1999

Saint Valentine's Day

Originally the Roman feast of Lupercalia, it was Christianized in memory of the martyr St. Valentine (d. A.D. 270).

In the Middle Ages, Valentine became associated with the union of lovers under conditions of duress. Today the holiday is celebrated with the exchange of romantic or comic messages called valentines.

Valentine, Saint d. c.270, Roman martyr-priest. Possibly because his feast, Feb. 14, was close to a pagan love festival, Valentine became known as a patron of lovers. The lovers' greeting cards sent on this day are called valentines. His feast was dropped from the liturgical calendar in 1969. Don't forget to celebrate your love this Valentine's Day and every day!

.....if you love, mean it.

Looking for a cornucopia of love? Try the Internet.

It's easy to get into a pre-February 14 rut and settle for a cookie-cutter Valentine's Day. After all, wasn't it just two months ago that I was scurrying about the mall trying to find the object of my affection a thoughtful gift? I only have so much romantic creativity in me. Luckily, I found many romantic ideas on the Internet. What's better is that I planned my entire day of love from my desk — no standing in line at flower shops or candy stores for me this year. Here is what I found:

Romantic Ideas

You know what roses mean. But did you know your choice of color can make or break someone's Valentine's Day? And beware of other blossoms — they can say volumes.
