Think Pink
R&B PRINCESS

New pop/R&B goddess Pink is sort of like a one-woman TLC. Her "There U Go" single has set her up as a major new talent, and her recent touring has made her a crowd favorite.
Beauty + brains + talent + humor = Pink.
Yes, that *will* be on the test.

Popstar!: What's with the Pink? How did you get your name?
Pink: [Laughs] That's an interesting story. In Philly, there's a group of five or six of us. My friends are really diverse. We're like club kids, skateboarders, hip-hoppers.
I was "Mr. Pink," one because I'm the only female, and one because of the tome of my skin. I'm the lightest out of all of us.

How did you feel when you finished your debut CD?
Like I was bouncing on my head. It hasn't hit me yet. But I write a lot, so I keep writing. I can't believe I just go into the office and say, "Here's another one!" I just can't wait to get onstage.

What should kids expect from a Pink show?
Well, I love to dance. I do gymnastics also. I want to incorporate that into my show. I have lots of crazy ideas. I want to do anything. I'm not afraid to do things. It's just part of my nature.

Do you remember who you called first when LaFace signed you?
I called my dad. It was weird...I was so excited - it's what I've always dreamed about - but when it happened, I was like "Now? Yeah." I always wanted to do it and I always knew for some reason that I knew I was going to.
I've always wanted to be a singer, ever since I could talk. Me and my dad - he's a Vietnam veteran - we used to have parties for all the vets. He'd play the guitar and we'd sing songs that he wrote. That was a lot of fun.

It runs in the family - you have writing credits on half the songs. Which are you most proud of?
"There U Go." And "Can't Take You Home To Mama" - that's a personal song. All my songs are really personal to me, because it's all life stories. I don't write your average love song. It's always got something to do with what's going on in my life.

What's the luckiest thing that's ever happened to you?
Luck is, like, a tricky one, because I think everything is a blessing. I don't too much believe in luck. I believe that everything happens for a reason. The most God has blessed me with is to be here and have family that loves me. And just have this way to express myself.
