The Adventures of Ashley Copyright by AKA Prelogue It was a dark and stormy night. It was raining cats and dogs outside while I was stuck inside staring out the window as a poodle fell out of the sky, quickly followed by a mackerel striped cat. I looked over at my moronic brother and sighed. Why was he so dumb? He didn't seem to understand that girls stared at him all the time at the mall. While all I wanted was to lose eighty-odd pounds and look like a super model. That and find a portal into another world. I wanted a grand adventure. Something presumably life-changing. Most of my time was spent lost in books to take me away from my glassy-eyed brother and yelling parents. There was yelling upstairs. There were some cats up there, but cats don't yell. Cat's probably undersand me better than my parents. Who think I'm going to end up on the the streets as a homeless artist. I think I'm a disapointment to them. They just don't understand me, period the end. It just wasn't that though. They just couldn't seem to understand the female teenage mind. Not like their really supposed to know. My father thinks he's the only one in the house allowed to express emotion. So you can't cry, you can't yell, you can't be upset or angry or grumpy. You have to be happy all the time so you don't upset him. He's like a big grouchy bear who has been asleep all winter. One move and he explodes. That's one of the reasons I can't wait to move out. That's one of the reasons I want to escape to another dimension. Looks like today was my lucky day. I walked out onto the porch as a strange light filled the entire sky. I stared for a moment before walking out into the rain. A strange shimmery patch had appeared on the middle of the yard. I walked out to it, dodging a few falling cats and dogs and ran right in. Upon reflection, it probably wasn't the smartest thing I'd ever done. But hey, you can't live in the past, it just makes it hurt more. I ran into something hard as I came through and fell onto the ground with a thud. I squinted up into the now sunny sky to see a man covered in metal armor. Explaining why it had hurt so much to run into him. I stood up and brushed myself off. Now standing I could see he also wore a shield and sword, was close to six feet tall and completely gorgeous.
