aftermath: the soundtrack

Introduction: Hey, this is Marty, producer/writer of Aftermath. I thought I should say a few words to begin this, because I think the soundtrack is very important to me. Unlike most soundtracks you see there are only eight tracks. That’s mostly because I chose very carefully. Plus, I didn’t want the music to overwhelm the film. That true the other way around as well. I just wanted the tracks to feel like they fit in. The music is great as well, and I encourage everyone to check out these tracks. Unfortunately all I can offer is the lyrics and a small bit of info on each song.

  1. Sebastien Tellier – Fantino
  2. Length: 3:12

    Written By Sebastien Tellier

    From the album L'incroyable Verite.

Also appears on the Lost In Translation Soundtrack.

    [No Lyrics]

  3. Radiohead – [nice dream]
  4. Length: 3:53

    Written By Radiohead

    From the album The Bends.

    Lyrics:

They love me like I was their brother.

They protect me, listen to me.

They dug me my very own garden.

Gave me sunshine, made me happy.

Nice dream. Nice dream. Nice Dream.

I’d call up friend the good angel.

But she’s out with her answerphone.

She says that she’d love to come help but,

The sea would electrocute us all.

Nice dream. Nice dream. Nice dream.

Nice dream. Nice dream. Nice dream

If you think that you’re strong enough.

If you think you belong enough.

    Just as well.

    Lyrics By Thom Yorke.

  5. Iron & Wine – Lion’s Mane
  6. Length: 2:49

    Written By Sam Beam.

From the album The Creek Drank The Cradle.

    Lyrics:

Run like a race for family

When you hear like you’re alone.

    The rusty gears of morning

    And the faceless busy phones.

We gladly run in circles but

The shape we meant to make

    Is gone.

And love is a tired symphony

    You hum when you’re awake.

And love is a crying baby mama

    Warned you not to shake.

    And love’s the best sensation

    Hiding in the lion’s mane.

So I’ll clear the road the gravel and

The thorn bush in your path.

That burns a scented oil that

    I’ll drip into your bath.

The water’s there to warm you

And the earth is warmer when

    You laugh.

And love is a scene I render

When you catch me wide awake.

And love is a dream you enter

Though I shake and shake and shake you.

And love is the best endeavor

    Waiting in the lion’s mane.

    Lyrics By Sam Beam.

  7. Elliott Smith – The Last Hour

Length: 3:27

Written By Elliott Smith

From the album From A Basement On The Hill.

Lyrics:

Here’s army that you mowed to the ground.

And the bodies you left lying around.

Talking it out, the last hour.

I’m through trying now, it’s a big relief.

I’ll be staying down, where no-one else gonna give me grief.

Mess me around, just make it over.

Your opinion was the law of the land.

Single thing I could always understand.

I lived it out from hour to hour.

The only thing that never really changed.

You ran me all around and dragged me down at the end of the day.

Don’t keep me around, just make it over.

I’ve been thinking of the things that I missed.

Situations that I passed up for this.

One way love I took for ours.

I’m through trying now, it’s a big relief.

I’ll be staying down, I wasn’t good at being a thief.

More like a clown, make it over.

Lyrics By Elliott Smith.

  1. Brian Eno – An Ending [Ascent]

    Written By Brian Eno.

  4. Length: 4:17

    Written By Elliott Smith.

From the album Elliott Smith (Self-Titled).

Also appears on the Royal Tennenbaums Soundtrack.

    Your hand on his arm
The hay stack charm around your neck
    Strung out and thin
Calling some friend trying to cash some check
    He's acting dumb
That's what you've come to expect

    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay

    He's wearing your clothes
Head down to toes a reaction to you
You say you know what he did
    But you idiot kid
    You don't have a clue
Sometimes they just get caught in the eye
    You're pulling him through

    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay

    Now on the bus

    Nearly touching this dirty retreat
Falling out 6th and powell a dead sweat in my teeth
    Gonna walk walk walk
Four more blocks plus one in my break
    Down downstairs to the man
He's gonna make it all OK
    I can't beat myself
    I can't beat myself
And I don't want to talk
I’m taking the cure so I can be quiet
    Whenever I want
    So leave me alone
You ought to be proud that I’m getting good marks

    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay
    Needle in the hay

    Lyrics By Elliott Smith.

  5. Wilco – Jesus, Ect
  6. Length: 3:51

    Written By Wilco.

From the album Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.

    Lyrics:

    Jesus, don’t cry

You can rely on me honey

You can combine anything you want

    I’ll be around

You were right about the stars

Each one is a setting sun

    Tall buildings shake

Voices escape singing sad sad songs

Tuned to chords strung down your cheek

Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

    Don’t cry

You can rely on me honey

You can come by anytime you want.

    I’ll be around

You were right about the stars

Each one is a setting sun

    Tall buildings shake

Voices escape singing sad sad songs

Tuned to chords strung down your cheeks

Bitter melodies turning your orbit around

    Voices whine

    Skyscrapers are scraping together

    Your voice is smoking your

Last cigarettes are all you can get

    Turning your orbit around

    Our love

    Our love

Our love is all we have

    Our love

Our love is all of God’s money

    Everyone is a burning sun.

Last cigarettes are all you can get

    Turning your orbit around.

    Lyrics By Jeff Tweedy.

  7. Elliott Smith – A Fond Farewell

Length: 3:58

Written By Elliott Smith.

From the album From A Basement On The Hill.

Lyrics:

The litebrite’s now black and white

‘Cause you took apart a picture that wasn’t right.

Pitch burning on a shining sheet

The only maker that you wanna meet.

A dying man in a living room

Who’s shadow paces the floor.

Who’ll take you out any open door.

This is not my life

It’s just a fond farewell to a friend.

It’s not what I’m like

It’s just a fond farewell to a friend.

Who couldn’t get things right.

A fond farewell to a friend.

He said, "really I just wanna dance."

Good and evil matched perfect it’s a great romance.

And I can deal with some psychic pain

If it’ll slow down my higher brain.

Veins full of disappearing ink

Vomiting in the kitchen sink.

Disconnecting from the missing link.

This is not my life

It’s just a fond farewell to a friend.

It’s not what I’m like

It’s just a fond farewell to a friend.

Who couldn’t get things right.

A fond farewell to a friend.

I see you’re leaving me

And taking up with the enemy.

The cold comfort of the in between

A little less than a human being.

A little less than a happy high

A little less than a suicide.

The only things that you really tried.

This is not my life

It’s just a fond farewell to a friend.

It’s not what I’m like

It’s just a fond farewell to a friend.

Who couldn’t get things right.

A fond farewell to a friend.

This is not my life

It’s just a fond farewell to a friend.

Lyrics By Elliott Smith.
