While I love flashy, bright colors and lots of sparkle, sometimes it's good to get back to nature. Browns, beiges & creams are a luxurious and flattering color palette. Plus, you can accessorize with some of nature's treasures. It's time to get back to basics.

Earth tones just came back into fashion a few years ago. While many trends come and go, the natural colors seem to remain a staple in every fashionista's closet. Earth tones are understated, yet flattering. They look great on everyone: Blondes, brunettes, redheads, black girls, white girls, asian girls. It doesn't matter. The elemental look is raw and gorgeous--universal, too.

It's easy to find natural-inspired jewelry. Native American-made jewelry with shells, natural stones and beads (turquoise, jade, coral, amber), and even bone can be so beautiful and simple. Not to mention they are considerably less expensive than precious stones! Rustic, natural jewelry reminds us of where we all came from. It's a delightful step back in time.

Whether or not you enjoy camping or long walks on the beach, you can find something earthy just for you. If you're a tomboy, try accessorizing with a puka or olive shell necklace. If you're wild, try animal prints or furs. If you're glamorous, pull on some knee-high suede boots. If you're girlie, try earth-toned tops with ruffles and lace. The look is surprisingly feminine, but not too Barbie-esque.

Coffee, cream and chocolate. Delicious earth colors! They look so luxurious and soft. They are sophisticated--only grown-ups wear them. One of my favorite natural textures is leather. It comes in many shades and is a true investment, since it looks better over time. Another choice texture is straw. Look for woven hats, belts and handbags to add dimension to your ensembles.

Getting Down to Earth Tips>>
*Rule of thumb: Blondes, go for medium to dark earth tones; brunettes, opt for lighter colors. Contrast between your top and your hair always looks good, but it's not required.
*Wear only one or two pieces of jewelry. It makes them stand out more, and draws more attention to the piece.
*Can't afford leather or suede, but still crave the luxe look? Hit Payless, or any budget-friendly store that sells shoes, and buy the boots of your dreams. You can also try tying a bit of suede cord (available at craft stores) around your neck. Optional: Add a shell or natural stone pendant, if you have one.
*Hand-tooled leather goods like belts and handbags add a natural touch to any outfit.
*Wear your hair messy and tousled, or do your hair in low, loose braids with long loose ends. It's a Pocohontas-goes-glam look you'll love!
*Don't forget the attitude! When you're dressing in natural clothes and accessories, be relaxed, yet subtly poised. And smile!
