HOW TO UNZIP AND UPLOAD THE EASY WAY
(if you already have Winzip installed, you can ignore
this first part.)
(1) Click here to download Winzip 90:
http://www.winzip.com/downauto.cgi?winzip90.exe
(2) It will begin to download immediately, and you
will get a gray popup. Click on "OPEN."(3) Let it download.
(4) You'll get another popup. Click on "SETUP."(5) Another popup -- click on "OKAY," and Winzip will now be
installed as you watch.(6) Another popup, so click "NEXT."(7) The Winzip Licensing Agreement. It's no big deal, and it costs you nothing. I have
used it over and over for years and never been charged a penny. Just click "Yes."
(8) You now get a choice to "Print Quick Start" or to "View Quick Start," either of which
will show you info about using Winzip. I always ignore these and simply click "Next."(9) You get a choice to use Winzip Wizard or Winzip Classic. If you want the easiest,
choose Classic. I've never found much use for the Wizard, personally.(10) Choose "EXPRESS SETUP," and click NEXT.(11) You can ignore "Associations," and again click "NEXT."(12) Click "FINISH."(13) You'll see "Tip Of The Day." Click on "CLOSE."(14) For the remaining Winzip popup still floating there, you can just click
the tiny "x" in its upper right to close it.
YOU NOW HAVE WINZIP INSTALLED, and using it to unzip is simple.
Well, kinda simple. I intend to make it EASY to accomplish,
so stay with me...HOW TO LOAD REGISTRATIONS INTO THE TYROS
(1) Now that you have Winzip installed, unzip the Registrations. Ooops, I forgot to explain how.All right, find the Registrations download on your computer screen (it may be a web link, or an email attachment), and click on it. You should get a gray popup that asks if you want to SAVE the file or to
OPEN it.  Click on "OPEN."(2) Now you will get a big Winzip File that asks you to make another choice. Either "Buy Now," or "Use Evaluation Version."  Unless you love spending money, click on the Evaluation Version (you can "evaluate"
for years.)
(3) Now comes the FUN part. You will instantly see all your files UNZIPPED, in their naked glory (pant, drool)... and you can load ANY or ALL of them to a disk.
To do this, simply put your cursor in the lower right area, hold down the LEFT mouse button, and then
swoop it to the left and then upward.... this will highlight them, and now you just RIGHT CLICK on the
highlighted area, and look for the word "extract" -- put your cursor on it and now LEFT CLICK to extract them. TO WHAT?Well, when you "left click" on "EXTRACT," you should get a popup showing you several choices -- and you should highlight "3 1/2 Floppy (A)" and then click at the lower right on EXTRACT... which should load all your now-unzipped Registrations (and more) onto a fresh, clean, IBM-formatted floppy disk. (Which, bless you,
you have previously inserted into your computer's floppy drive.)See how simple it all is? (Yeah, right, Dave.)(4) Remove disk from computer and insert into Tyros, then press the REG. BANK button (located next to FREEZE button).(5) Now look for the BACK/NEXT buttons at upper right of display screen. If you're not in the FD area, go there now by pressing either BACK or NEXT until you get there.(6) At this point, you should see the Registrations displayed on screen.(7) To access a specific Registration Bank, press a button on either side of the Display Screen (A to J) -- which should highlight the bank.(8) Now simply press any of the (1-8) Registration buttons to bring up the exact Registration you want.
(9) Next, be sure the ACMP (Accompaniment) button at far left side, is turned ON.(10) Finally, press any of the 3 "Intro" buttons so that it lights, and then press SYNCH / START so that it also lights.(11) NOW YOU ARE READY to make music with the Registrations. To get the Accompaniment started, just press any black or white key on the left side.
(12) After the Intro, play your melody.   Remember, use the left hand keys to to make any chord changes needed.(And speaking of chords, it's best to use the Tyros chord setting called "MULTI-FINGER," because with it you can make chords with ONE FINGER or with SEVERAL.)
(13) Since I used the same "Style" for nearly ALL of the Registrations, you will probably at some point want a different style. To get a style you'd prefer, first press the FREEZE button so that it lights, THEN press a style type button (let's say "Ballad") -- then select (and highlight) one of these by pressing a display button (A thru J).(14) Once you have selected a Style you like, press the Registration Bank button to again return to your Registration choices.(15) From here, you can select any Registration you like. Remember, these were "converted" from the 9000, so some will not be lighted and will not work -- and others may be lighted and still not work properly.   So please don't be like those who bitch and moan that "some don't sound good."   It's YOUR job to find the ones that DO sound good to you, and use them.Well, that's it. You can now play using any Registration Bank you select. THERE'S JUST ONE MORE THING you should do, however, to make your life complete... and that is to...
(16) COPY THE REGISTRATIONS FROM THE DISK TO YOUR TYROS USER DRIVE. Yes, doing this will make them MUCH easier to use, because once it's done, you won't have to wait for everything to upload from the Disk every time you need to use it.
So, knowing how you are now hanging on my every word, here is what you do (and BTW, it's simple):
(a) If you're not in the Reg. Bank area, get there by pressing the Reg. Bank button.(b) Now press the BACK/NEXT buttons ar upper right of display, to get to the FD (floppy drive) area. Unless you're already there.
(c) (Whew! Break time. More to come)
