Certain rituals are best performed in particular phases of the moon. Spells for prosperity, good harvests, material gain and the like are best performed when the moon is waxing, that is before the full moon and after the new moon. Spells intended to rid oneself of something, say excess weight or a bad habit, are best performed when the moon is waning, after the full moon and before the new moon. It is entirely possible to alter this timing, it is just one additional influence, it does not make or break the ritual. If in need, conduct the ritual when you need to and don't concern yourself overly with the moon phase.
