A
Battle Royal IV
Scowling
to myself I slipped behind a large coal container. I stayed in hiding
for hours, waiting for Pennywise to arrive. And when he did, I grabbed a
nearby peasant, gave him a message and a royal and shoved him on his
way. The peasant ran towards Pennywise, delivered the message and
scampered off with his riches.
"Fine by me! Yer gonna die anyway!" yelled Pennywise.
Smiling to myself I slipped out of my cover. I held my daggers and had
my blowpipe at the ready. Magic is a tough opponent for both the user
and the target. Pennywise began casting fireballs at every shadow.
Paranoid, I thought, and closed into a more offensive range.
"Come on! Get out and fight me yer loser!" he screamed.
Loser? I pondered how he spoke, quite strangely. I muttered to myself
for allowing myself to be sidetracked and focused on Pennywise. I closed
in and leapt out silently, my intent to disrupt the impact shielding all
wizards have. The shield absorbed the first three hits, and the fourth
broke it. Pennywise was visibly shaken and ran for cover and I gave
chase. I reached for my blowpipe and found it to be missing! Scowling to
myself I let Pennywise escape and looked about for my blowpipe. Spotting
it on the floor I quickly scooped it up and ran towards Pennywise, and
straight into a ball of flame. I rolled to avoid most of the blast but I
was still badly burned. Dodging under his amateurish swing I slipped
into a stall and escaped out the back door.
Damn wizards, I thought as I drank a vial. Peeking out of my concealed
location I could see him casting more fireballs at shadows. I smiled and
pulled a poison phial from my backpack. I carefully poured enough to
fill two darts and slipped one in between my teeth, the other into a
dart belt. I held the pipe lightly and slipped towards Pennywise.
"Yooohooo!"
I smiled slightly and crept closer. When I was close enough I aimed the
pipe and fired! The dart hit Pennywise in the neck! He yelped and
flicked the dart away, but it was too late. The poison kicked in and
Pennywise dropped to the floor near death. I stepped out of my shadow,
checked his condition and smiled. I pulled a small necklace from his
neck, a symbol of my victory and before I could slip off into the
night.
"Nicely done.." someone whispered from the shadows.
The voice sounded familiar, a sound I hadn't heard for a long time.
"Rondros?"
"Yep!" he shouted as he revealed himself.
"Brother!! Good to see you! Heh heh, I taught you that
trick.."
"Yes, yes you did brother." He looked down "Ah, another
defeated foe I see?"
"Aye, just some competition I entered..."
"Uh huh, to the death?"
"I poisoned him, he'll come around with a nasty headache at some
point. Quite a short fight really."
With that, we wandered towards Mad Stoat, we had a lot of talking to do
I gathered from his expression. He brought news from his new home, of a
war brewing, and how he needed help training the local villagers. He
mentioned he could train them in the arts of fighting, but not the finer
arts of covert...We drank for the rest of the night and remembered the
good old days.
