Establishing the Human/Animal Bond:
The Behaviour, Temperament and Obedience Training Approach

Planned Puppyhood specializes in one-on-one lessons in a quiet home enviroment, where each owner is individually taught how to teach the puppy good behaviour through the proper use of praise.  The program includes six weeks of structured homework, a comprehensive Owner's Manual, and ongoing telephone support as needed.

Planned Puppyhood guides the puppy owner through the following topics:

** house training by the crate method
(instruction available before the first lesson)
** preventing problem behaviour
** puppy personality test
** discouraging nipping and mouthing
** handling and gentling
** how to recognize and handle dominance
challanges
** establishing owner leadership
** puppy health, nutrition and socialization
**eye contact, tone of voice and body
language
** suitable toys for your puppy
**appropriate praise and discipline
** tips on increasing your pup's vocabulary
**BASIC COMMANDS: NO, OK,
SIT/STAY, COME, DOWN/STAY/STAND
**children and dogs

**recommended books and videos

Planned Puppyhood focuses on problem prevention and the teaching of essential household manners.  We discourage the use of food treats in teaching commands.  Happy praise and/or petting are the only acceptable rewards.

Puppies begin thier lessons at 12 weeks of age.  The owner must provide a veterinarian's certificate at the first lesson.  A buckled collar and a 6-foot training leash are required.
(NO choke chain collars are permitted)
For puppies, time passes in the blink of an eye.  At six months of age, your pup is entering his adolescence, and by one year most breeds are physically adult.  You only have a brief window of time (before 16 weeks) to mold your puppy's personality and guide his behaviour.

Our methods have been derived from The Monks of New Skete, Job Michael Evans, Carol Lea Benjamin, Dr. Dennis Fetko, Brian Kilcommons, and other well-konwn and respected behaviourists, trainers and veterinarians.
