"Even Ice Cream is now named so it can advertise something else: the name of Ben and Jerry's butter almond ice cream is called 'Dilbert's World: Totally Nuts' (Solomon 1998a)" (Fox, Common Culture, Salespeak 63).
I've often heard that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, maybe advertisers heard the same thing. There may be a correlation between eating something that tastes good and developing a loyalty to whoever provided you with it. Maybe advertisers have learned that the consumer of the food is helpless and will also develop a loyalty to whatever else they are exposed to when eating the product.  Or maybe Ben and Jerry just want clever names for their products. The world may never know.
Deadheads everywhere must have praised Ben and Jerry for their tributes to Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. They expanded his falvors to yogurt, sorbet, and even made it into "peace pops." If Garcia was here today I'm sure he'd give Ben and Jerry an enthusiastic peace sign.
Karma Sutra & Karamel Sutra
Eating Karamel Sutra ice cream seems less strenuous than trying out the Karma Sutra, yet still promotes it with it's clever title and spelling of caramel.
The quote below is proof that not all ice cream collaborations are solely for money and world domination.
"Ben was our neighbor through the woods & we're fond of ice cream. So we teamed up to create Phish Food. Our share of the proceeds from this pint sale goes toward environmental efforts in Vermont's Lake Champlain Watershed. Enjoy!" - PHISH
Dearly Departed Flavors That Advertised
Fans of the movie Half Baked must have many thanks to give to Ben and Jerry for providing them with an ice cream of the same title to munch on during their favorite movie.
