We welcomed 3 new members at our March meeting: Melissa McBride, Yvonne Gabel and Bessie Joy Kaufhold; and look forward to their participation in our events. We'll be going to North Chicago V.A. Hospital on Sunday, June 7th. We will meet at the Club at 1:00 p.m. and car pool to the Hospital, and I want to invite all Members, especially the new ones, to join us. Visiting our hospitalized Veterans is a rewarding experience and the Veterans really appreciate our visits. Our Kids' Easter Party was a great success! About 42 kids enjoyed crafts, visits from the Easter Bunny and Clowns, and finding lots of eggs at Veterans' Park. Also, thanks to our Bunny and Clowns - we couldn't do it without you. I'm sure everyone has received their post cards with all of the upcoming events, so mark your calendars! Remember that reservations are required for the Cinco de Mayo dinner on 5/2, so be sure to call Cheryl at the Club, 815-385-9789. There will be a Combined Veterans Ceremony on Memorial Day, May 25th, at Veterans' Park. Both the Post and Auxiliary will have Color Guards there so, if any of the Auxiliary Members would like to be part of our Color Guard, for any events, please let me know. Ladies, join us at our meetings on the 4th Sunday of the month, September through June. We get a lot accomplished and new ideas to raise money for our hospitalized Veterans and their families are always welcome. Sincerely, Holly Swanson, President |

LEO KUCIA Post member Leo Kucia,, Born August 18, 1941 passed away on March 15, 2009. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, who is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was also a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and St. Peter's Church in Volo, IL. The family requested memorials be made to PLAV, Post 188. |

A benefit for Jim Fallon will be held on Friday May 8th from 6 PM to 10:00 PM. Please stop in and help Jim in his time of need. MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY The Memorial Day ceremony will be at Veterans Park in McHenry on Monday, May 25th. It starts at 10:00 AM, bring a lawn chair.
