What ages of children may attend playgroup? Playgroup is open to all children from 4 weeks up to 5 years of age. During the summer, elementary age siblings may attend as needed. Do I have to attend with my child in order for him/her to participate in playgroup? We do not provide sitter services at playgroup. All children must be accompanied by their parent or an adult you authorize to bring them such as a grandparent, aunt or uncle. Do you have to be a Stay At Home Mom (SAHM) or Stay At Home Dad (SAHD) to attend playgroup? No, we have both stay at home parents and parents who work part-time/full-time outside the house who attend playgroup. How much does it cost to attend playgroup? Since we are not associated with any national group and have no organizational fees, Playgroup does not charge any fees or dues to participate in weekly activities. Families are responsible for paying their own admission fees for special events such as going the zoo and "Parent's Night Out" activities. We also ask for donations of craft items and refreshment items throughout the year. Do you have snack time during playgroup? We do not have a group snack time during regular playgroup. Families may bring their own drinks and snacks with them to playgroup each week if they wish. When there is a "party" day (Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, etc.) a sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board and each family is asked to bring something in to share with the group. May my child bring his/her special toy with them to playgroup? We do not forbid children bringing toys with them as long as the toy does not promote violence (guns, knives, swords, etc.) and the child is willing to share the item with the other playgroup children. Who in my family may attend the special activities? "Parent's Night Out" events are for the adults in your family. This is a time for you to get out of the house with or without your spouse. Field trips such as going to the zoo or the fire station are open to every member of your family and you may also invite friends and neighbors who have young children. Do I have to attend every week to keep my child in playgroup? No, we have families that due to work schedules, illness, or vacations are not able to attend each week. We do ask to be contacted if you're no longer going to participate in playgroup, so your spot can be given to another family. What activities are there for my child at playgroup? We currently have a varied selection of inside toys and play items such as a Hedstrom Toddler swingset, a pop-up tunnel, a 6' parachute, riding and rocking toys, coloring books, puzzles, playdough and books. We also have craft projects for the older children during holiday parties and different weeks throughout the year. During warmer weather, children can go to the community playground which is located behind the church's parking lot. As a playgroup parent, do I have any responsibilities/duties? Yes, you are responsible for the conduct of your child(ren) during playgroup and for correcting misbehavior. We strongly discourage spanking your child(ren) and prefer a "time-out" method be used when at playgroup. Parents are also responsible for assisting with the set-up and clean-up of the playgroup area. At the end of playgroup toys must be put away, the Sunday school classroom partitions are put back into place, trash should be emptied from the bathrooms and main room, and the carpets must be vacuumed in areas where there are any food/snack crumbs. How do I sign-up my child to attend playgroup? E-mail your name, address, phone number, name(s) and age(s) of your child(ren). You will be contacted confirming the information was received and given a date you can start attending with your child(ren). If playgroup is filled, you will be placed on our waiting list and contacted when we have a vacancy occur. The main page of our website will state if we currently have openings or if we're placing families on a waiting list. I still have unanswered questions, what should I do? Email your questions to playgroup. You will receive a response as promptly as possible. |
