MY POINT OF VIEW | ||||||||||||
A LIFE OF REASON | ||||||||||||
So just what is a life that is guided by reason? I have always tried to live a life that was objective and openminded concerning most everything. I have always had a thirst for knowledge and truth in such eternal questions as to the nature of the universe, the existence of God, and our place in the cosmos. It is a journey towards knowledge that is tiresome and offensive to some of the closest people to you in your life, but I feel that truth is the only thing that has any real meaning. In my life I have been a seeker of God, a born again Christian, an atheist and a believer in God, again. This occurring several times over. While this may seem somewhat wishy-washy, believe me the quest for this kind of truth can be exasperating and torturous. Most of my life I have spent as an agnostic, not really believing that the God question was an answerable one. Still, I have persevered in trying to find answers to my questions. I have basically come to the conclusion that there is in no way that the God of the Christian Bible can exist. The majority of people believe to the contrary, but they have never even bothered to pick up that book and really read it. Their faith is based on what they have been told with no individual attempt at finding the truth. If anyone would open the Bible and really read it; they would find a book filled with absurdities and contradictions that could in no way be connected with an all-knowing, all-loving god. I once took a course on the New Testament in college and that class did more to destroy my faith than enhance it and I was a strong, committed believer then. I would never tell anyone how to believe. They can only find true discovery and enlightenment by seeking out the truth on their own. However, if I can shed a little light on their path it might just help lead them to a life lived by asking questions, seeking out the truth, weighing the options and reaching a conclusion. A life that is guided by reason. |
