I wish to express my grave concern at the recent brutal murder of Indigenous leader Marcos Veron, who was beaten to death on the 13th January as he tried to lead his community back to their land at Fazenda Brasília do Sul (Takuára).
I respectfully ask you to conduct an immediate and impartial investigation into his death, and to ensure that those responsible for this crime will be brought quickly to justice.
Prior to Marcos Veron's attempt to bring his community back to their ancestral lands the community were camped on the side of the highway near Dourados, under plastic tarpaulins. Their homes and possessions have been burned, and they have little food and no access to clean water. Many Guarani from other communities have committed suicide as a result of the pressures of living in these kinds of conditions.
I urge you to take immediate action to enable these Guarani-Kaiowá to return safely to their home in Fazenda Brasília do Sul. Brazil's constitution guarantees indigenous peoples the right to occupy and use the lands they have occupied since time immemorial, and it must be upheld in this very urgent case.

Estou extrememente preocupado com o fato dos Guarani Kaiowa da Fazenda Brasilia do Sul (Takuara) estarem morando na beira da estrada,sendo que a terra deles ja foi identificada como terra tradicional indigena. Peço respeitosamente uma ação urgente para ajudar a comunidade voltar para sua terra sagrada. A Constituição Brasileira garante esse direito.
