Chapter 6 They were married two days later. She figured that since the
doctor had given her six months to a year, she wouldn’t bother with the long
courtship or engagement. Dory had found the man she wanted and he was certain
about her, too. So why delay? He wasn’t getting any younger and her cancer
was reason enough to quiet the naysayers. If anything, there was one thing that her cancer had given her –
her parents’ consent to this not-at-all-ordinary marriage. And as she told “Dory,” “Dory, I know that Heaven won’t even be on a comparable plane to
this earth, so you won’t be up there thinking, Oh, I missed out on a really nice wedding, but I wanted this for
you anyway. You will only be married once, as long as I live anyway, and I
wanted that wedding to be beautiful.” Then, smiling, he said, “I only wish I
had been able to give you a better-looking groom.” Not taking the bait, Dory said, “Well, you know, I could always
cut you out of the pictures. There’s all sorts of technology for that now.
And then, I could add someone really hot.”
He pushed her softly onto her back and pressed his lips against hers.
“Someone really hot, huh?” She
murmured yes into his lips.
“Really?” he asked, kissing her thoroughly. When he pulled back to hear her
answer, her voice was soft and breathy, “I think I’ll leave them just as they
are, after all.” |
