I walked into the courtroom
Feeling defeated and lost.
I knew what I'd done.
I knew what it'd cost.

I sat at the table
While I awaited my trial.
I could see opposing counsel;
The contentment in his smile.

I could see the stacks of papers;
All the evidence he brought.
And I knew this was it -
All my sins he had caught.

The jury came in.
I could feel all their stares.
As I sank even further
Into the seat of my chair.

I didn't want to face them
So I looked at the ground
While I waited for my lawyer
Who hadn't yet come around.

The judge took his seat
While the rest of us stood.
I thought I would die -
If only I could.

Then in walked my lawyer.
All the jurors shook their heads.
Opposing counsel mumbled something
But I didn't hear what he said.

Everyone watched
As He walked up the aisle.
I couldn't help what I felt.
I'm sure it showed in my smile.

He walked to the front
Where He sat next to me.
Then I heard the judge ask:
"How do you plea?"
I took a deep breath
But I couldn't utter a word
Before my attorney jumped in
And said: "These charges are absurd!"

"I want them dismissed.
For the penalty's been paid.
Through the Blood of The Lamb,
This man's soul has been saved."

He stretched out His hands.
He said: "I paid the cost!"
As He showed us the holes
Where He was nailed to the cross.

The prosecutor stood
As he yelled out with rage:
"What about these sins?
He can't possibly be saved!"

He picked up the papers
But the pages were blank.
His evidence was gone -
Every sin was erased.

The Book of Life was opened
My name read from the list.
The judge slammed his gavel;
Said: "All charges dismissed!"

I hugged my dear Savior
Who came down from His throne
To pay for my sins
And then welcome me home.

Innocent blood
So precious and pure
For those who believe
Salvation's assured.
